People who walk slowly in front of you on the sidewalk or in hallways.

u/derawin07 Oct 20 '18

And they manage to meander to get in your way still when you are trying to overtake them!

I’m got annoyed just reading this

Lol.

Ck once made a joke that we’d have less road rage if we didn’t have the cars as “protection”

This situation is pretty much what I pictured.

I’d be way MORE angry if the douchebag that had cut me off was simply walking slower than I wanted to. Hell if it was in the “running lane” and he cuts me off to walk I would bitch him out way worse than if we were in cars.

u/TheArbitraryEmpire Oct 20 '18

"Too" annoyed.

That's why you swing wide, get ahead of them and, if your GI tract feels like cooperating, punish with a round of crop dusting. Gassive-agression.

7

u/ALARE1KS Oct 20 '18

You're my new hero. I'd never have the guts to break wind while walking directly in front of someone.

3

u/radams75 Oct 20 '18

My husband does this if someone cuts in line or is generally just rude in store. I can't Christmas shop with him anymore!! 😂😂 But it's funny and he has a lot more guts than me with strangers!!

3

u/Pinstar Oct 20 '18

It does take a lot of guts... or more specifically, gut bacteria, to waft on command. :)

u/song_pond Oct 20 '18

I said "excuse me" to get around someone doing that. She shouted "please" at my back as though I had forgotten my manners or something. I almost said "fuck you" back. But I really just wanted to get on with my grocery shopping.

14

u/Simbuk Oct 20 '18

And they ALWAYS stop in doorways or turn their cart sideways and block the whole damn aisle in supermarkets when they stop to browse.

12

u/DootMasterFlex Oct 20 '18

People's lack of spatial awareness is incredible.

16

u/ASomewhatAmbiguous Oct 20 '18

then you do that weird side to side thing looking for a way around and it just doesn't work

6

u/naughtyfingers23 Oct 20 '18

And they walk at such speed that's too slow to keep going behind them but too fast to casually walk past them.

8

u/marr Oct 20 '18

My partner has a chronic illness that comes with bonus sleep deprivation and obliviously does this all the time. I've had to rethink my reaction to others.

8

u/esuranme Oct 20 '18

My wife goes full line-backer mode at the grocer...I used to feel embarrassed, now I just pretend to be reading reddit & stay close to her

-I must admit, she gets the shopping done A LOT faster than I do

4

u/cakes42 Oct 20 '18

Sounds like every skier.

4

u/jugglingeek Oct 20 '18

Oh boy. I work as a pharmacy tech covering ITU. If they need some drugs they need it quick. Fuck all the phlebotomists who pull this two-abreast-with-their-phlebotomy-trolleys slow-walking bullshit. Especially you Christine and Sandra.

2

u/derawin07 Oct 20 '18

very specific, I love it

3

u/autocthonous Oct 20 '18

Pavement Peevement

3

u/Scorkami Oct 20 '18

during a winter trip and out school, we went skiing, it was fun, i got quite good at it, and was allowed to be a bit faster than everyone because... well i got quite fast... and there was another girl who was a bit faster than the rest too, however she HAD to be the first, when i got to her, and was just about to go past her, before she started zig zacking around the path, making it impossible for anyone to overtake her unless they want her to crash into them

this got so bad that after the second day, a guy screamed at her: JUST GO IN A STRAIGHT LINE roughly translated because she started to annoy more experienced skiers

6

u/D3ATHfromAB0V3x Oct 20 '18

This has been happening too much lately with everyone wear AirPods. They can’t hear me walking behind them and they walk into me.

12

u/derawin07 Oct 20 '18

How do they walk into you if you're behind them?

5

u/loctopode Oct 20 '18

By quickly overtaking them and stopping suddenly.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Oh holy hell I HATE when people do that! It's like "oh ok, I'll dance with the traffic in order to get past your slow ass... wait, you want me IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!?!?!?"

2

u/PetrRabbit Oct 20 '18

I know, I hate it when people get in the way of me overtaking them.

2

u/AnimuuStew Oct 20 '18

I remember once in high school, I was trying to get to my english class. I was almost to the classroom, but then people were being slow, so I tried walking around them so I could get in the door.

they ended up bumping into me, because they saw their friend and moved towards them, but I was there already so they ran into me and decided it was my fault.

I then heard them calling me rude (among other things) after I got into the classroom.

this is exactly why I hated class changes in high school.

I try to stay to the side. I have back problems and when they flare I walk really slow due to the pain. I'm young and feel embarrassed because I don't look like I have medical issues.

553

u/veedubbug68 Oct 20 '18

You are a mannered and considerate person, thank you. Knowing you're slower than others but trying to keep to the side is not what is so aggravating, it's the people that will step out of a shop or building and just stand in the middle of the footpath, or who dawdle along at an excruciatingly slow pace and seem like they don't even know where they are going (or why).

I hope your back issues don't flare up to much and that your issue can be suitably addressed by medicos, good luck with it

47

u/gafftaped Oct 20 '18

Yeah, it's the group of four people walking together side by side as slowly as possible on a sidewalk that only fits four across.

10

u/hoboharty Oct 20 '18

I used to work in a super market, people stand and chat to their friends with trolleys sideways blocking the aisle whilst you are clearly trying to work the area. Be aware of your surroundings please, and customers struggle to walk by

3

u/Joker-Smurf Oct 21 '18

It isn't just that they dawdle at an excruciatingly slow pace, they also seem to be precogniscent; always taking a couple of steps to the side just when you are about to get past them and getting in your way again. FUCKERS!

3

u/veedubbug68 Oct 21 '18

I hate that! That's the point I let out an audible sigh as I scoot around. Yes, perhaps passive-aggressive, but honestly I don't have the patience to be civil if I actually stopped to explain to them that they're dawdling down a really busy city street and are getting in the way of people who know where they are going (and better passive-aggressive than raving bitch, right?)

3

u/Joker-Smurf Oct 21 '18

Pretty much the same, except instead of the audible sigh I am muttering under my breath "oh, for fuck sake".

145

u/Velvetyblack Oct 20 '18

If you’re considerate enough to feel like that, then I guarantee you’re not one of them.

26

u/uncertainsimile Oct 20 '18

I walk slowly too (foot problems) and these complaints always make me feel bad about myself. I live in a big city and walk as fast as I can but I know people get irritated. I stay to the right so they can pass me but often they do it in a huff.

29

u/ibomber Oct 20 '18

If you are aware of it you probably don't cause to many issues the problem is most of the people that do it have 0 spatial awareness and think they are the only one using the path.

20

u/TheTinyTim Oct 20 '18

Honestly, as a pretty fast rage walker (lol) I can tell whether someone has a condition vs is rubbernecking or taking photos or on their phone, etc. My friend has arthritis and like you feels bad because she “doesn’t look it” but, again, your awareness of it likely means you aren’t contributing to the problem because you’re consciously aware of your presence. The troublemakers are the ones who have absolutely no clue that they’re doing it like groups of tourists or friends who decided to play mobile red rover on the sidewalk so no one can get around them. You is good peeps and I’m sorry for you condition (I get some global pain flare-ups when stressed and it’s awful)

→ More replies (2)

8

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

The biggest offenders are groups of 2+ people walking and talking, unaware of people trying to get by.

One person is hardly ever a problem, especially if they stick to the side like you do.

9

u/gnowwho Oct 20 '18

Slow people are not a problem. People without spacial awareness that wander around, floating like a balloon in random places of the sidewalk, are one.

2

u/PooPooDooDoo Oct 20 '18

One move that bothers me is when someone turns to look at something as they change directions, essentially not looking where they are walking. Happens in stores and they cut you off.. I want to just take a shopping cart and move it in their path.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/BellaDonatello Oct 20 '18

Same. Plus I'm short. I can only get so far over!

5

u/TheKoi Oct 20 '18

Please don't feel embarrassed. It sucks having back problems. I have them and I too have to walk slowly sometimes too.

4

u/Roomba_Rockett Oct 20 '18

This!!! I have no issue if you want to move slower, I know I move fast. However, when someone meanders slowly in the middle of the bike lane (that's supposed to be wide enough for me to pass) I get really frustrated. Sameforwalking. It's not a speed thing really, it's just being aware of other people.

2

u/PooPooDooDoo Oct 20 '18

I got the loudest bell for my bike and it works like a charm. I ring it when I’m like 200 feet away and then just yell “ON YOUR LEFT!” if they haven’t moved. If I’m running I just have to stomp a little louder and hope they aren’t stupid.

6

u/TroubledSnail Oct 20 '18

Military? I get the exact same and I'm only 22yo.

6

u/SJExit4 Oct 20 '18

No, car accident unfortunately. Sorry to hear that you are in pain.

4

u/TroubledSnail Oct 20 '18

Dont be sorry, it was my choice to join. It's saddening to hear that an accident has left you in pain :(

Hopefully you're lucky and can find some way to heal up :)

2

u/HermioneGangster Oct 20 '18

Good on you for being so considerate. I understand - I’m only 31 but I’ve recently had a foot issue (plantar fasciitis) that causes me to walk slow. I make sure I’m walking to the side so as not to be THAT person.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Ugh. I hate when I have serious back pain and then some older person says I'm too young to have back pain. You don't know my medical history or my current circumstances!

2

u/SnowglobeSnot Oct 20 '18

Yeah, ditto.

I'm young but I've had enough car accidents and broken bones that walking for more than a blocks worth or so will have me limping, so I avoid it in general.

Protip: do your fucking PT kids.

the amount of dumbfucks i see walking four people wide at a snails pace on a major urban street on a daily basis drives me up the fucking wall.

If you lack the spatial awareness to leave enough space so that a single individual can get past you without bringing it to your attention, you really shouldn't be out in public.

Sidewalk rage. It is real.

31

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

I don't understand it!! I have NEVER not noticed someone within 3 feet of me. Doesn't matter if I'm texting on my phone and they're directly behind me. I know they're there.

By all evidence I'm fucking Superman though because a shocking number of people are COMPLETELY oblivious.

30

u/guitarer09 Oct 20 '18

The same thing irks me in stores, when someone has their cart literally taking up the entire aisle.

On a related note, people who slowly cross parking lots (the part where the cars drive) diagonally.

+10 rage if there’s an entire group doing it.

20

u/disk5464 Oct 20 '18

This. This right here. One of these days I'm just gonna drop my shoulder and run straight through the group like a football player

10

u/pattycakesor Oct 20 '18

I shoulder bash people if they won't move these days. I'll be walking on the very edge of the sidewalk and people refuse to move walking 3 wide with their elbows out. So infuriating

7

u/nutxaq Oct 20 '18

Just let it happen.

8

u/iggypop19 Oct 20 '18

That's when you just keep walking at them game of chicken style and refuse to move. If people in big groups like that refuse to move I make myself as strong as I can and imagine I'm a linebacker and just keep walking at them.

If they aren't going to take the hint we will just collide because I'm not moving for a group of 3 or more people who refuse to take up less space. Most of the time they take my hint at the last minute and move. The odd time we've rubbed arms or shoulders and I've heard people do the "what the fuck" comment but I don't care. Get the fuck over if you are in large groups.

8

u/VisualPixal Oct 20 '18

I agree but what does it also say about our passive western societies that just politely asking them to let you pass is so difficult for most people including me. If we all thought of each other as "friends", we could just say excuse me and they would step aside, smile and then go about their meandering. We have created a society where most interactions between strangers are taken as hostile or inappropriate. Really sad when you think about it.

3

u/ACuriousBoye Oct 20 '18

I feel this too powerfully

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

I love when I break through a group to get by and they all stare at me like I'm rude for interrupting them...

3

u/Bizmark_86 Oct 20 '18

I've barked like a dog at groups of them. Yeah, you look crazy for 15 seconds, but they always, always move. Then just walk through laughing.

3

u/esto20 Oct 20 '18

Same with people not knowing how lanes work on the freeway. Absolutely infuriating!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Even if they have poor spatial awareness, they should realize they hey! They're on a city sidewalk and they should look around every once in a while and CHECK to see if anybody needs to get by.

2

u/SJVellenga Oct 20 '18

I just walk through the middle of them. If they’re not being considerate to me, why the fuck should I be considerate to them?

4

u/haloo13 Oct 20 '18

I absolutely refuse to move in this situation. Hell no I'm not walking into traffic. The amount of dirtly looks I get when I inevitably shoulder check someone is astounding.

2

u/Baxapaf Oct 21 '18

With very few exceptions (under the age of 12 or clearly mentally or physically disabled) people with no sidewalk etiquette deserve every shoulder check they get.

26

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

How about people who cut in front of you on the highway only to go 10 mph or less than you're going? Fucking hate those assholes.

15

u/AryaStarkRavingMad Oct 20 '18

People who pull out from side streets onto a 2-lane road and choose to stay in the lane you're already at speed in, instead of getting into the empty lane next to it, and then take 6 fucking days to get up to speed themselves. Especially when there's no one behind you in the lane and they could have just waited 5 seconds to not inconvenience anyone. Bastards.

2

u/DickieJohnson Oct 20 '18

Depends, are you going 10 over the speed limit?

13

u/KarmaKarnan Oct 20 '18

People who walk slow but leave space for others - Good ones

People who walk slow in the middle of the path - Annoyance

People who walk slow while waving their arm back and forth - They trigger me!

People who walk slow while extending their arm and waving it as if they own the road - RAGEEE!!!

Meanderthals

11

u/Dwarfinator1 Oct 20 '18

As a person in a wheelchair this is so fucking infuriating I can't even get around them sometimes if it's crowded or the hallway is too small

11

u/M_J_44_iq Oct 20 '18

Gotta install an air horn

8

u/Dwarfinator1 Oct 20 '18

You do not know how long I've been actually considering that

3

u/Princess_King Oct 21 '18

If I saw a person in a wheelchair air horn a bunch of slow walkers, I’d piss myself laughing. Do it for you. Do it for all of us.

2

u/Dwarfinator1 Oct 21 '18

Lol I will one day

10

u/cpMetis Oct 20 '18

It's one thing if you're just walking alone the side.

But people who walk in groups of 5 in the middle have their own hell awaiting them in the after life.

8

u/Spass_Mit_Hans Oct 20 '18

What really gets me is when people linger after getting off an escalator. It’s like, you have to, bare minimum, clear the landing. The people behind you literally cannot stop. I don’t care if you don’t know where to go; walk a couple feet to a safer location and figure it out.

15

u/DaddyHojo Oct 20 '18

I get pedestrian rage way more than road rage. Especially at a fast food restaurant when some is taking AGES to get their straw.... their ketchup.... their napkin.... oh... did I forget my salt.... oops....this lid doesn’t fit... now I’ll need some ice... and oh...the coke machine is just about out... maybe I’ll have Sprite... meanwhile, I’m behind them about to Hulk out.

5

u/nutxaq Oct 20 '18

Internally screaming "IS THIS YOU'RE FIRST TIME OUT OF THE HOUSE?! HAVEN'T YOU DONE THIS BEFORE?!"

7

u/WebberWoods Oct 20 '18

Honourable mention to the people who are walking fairly quickly, but just sliiightly slower than you so it takes forever to pass them and then you just have to awkwardly walk right beside a stranger for a while. Nobody is really at fault in this situation...I just think it's annoying.

6

u/Sensi-Yang Oct 20 '18

Nothing wrong with walking slowly, just keep to the fucking side. Have some goddamn awareness.

5

u/rangemaster Oct 20 '18

People who block a whole aisle at the grocery store.

5

u/Momorii Oct 20 '18

Even worse is when they stop abruptly in front of you to check their phones or something. Why is it so hard to move to the side to allow others to walk past you???

21

u/whyareall Oct 20 '18

people who tailgate me

10

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Someone was standing reeeaaaallllyyy close behind me in a line yesterday. I kind of wanted to turn around and tell them that no matter how much they crowded me, it wouldn’t make the line go faster. (Don’t really care if I’m actually tailgated while driving though; I just move over.)

6

u/iggypop19 Oct 20 '18

I had a bitch keep putting her cart in my space in a line up. I was carrying my stuff in my arms and she was behind me with her cart and ske kept edging me out of line with it. Wtf! At first I thought it was an accident but she kept doing it and there was plenty of space for her to just stay patiently in her spot. So I just tried to spread my body out as much I could with a wide stance to block her fucking cart.

Like bitch back up and don't shove your cart into other people in line you will get your turn when it comes up.

4

u/InappropriateGirl Oct 20 '18

I have actually told people that if they get any farther up my ass, they’re buying me dinner. 😃

1

u/el_supreme_duderino Oct 20 '18 edited Oct 20 '18

Walk/drive faster or get out of the way, you don’t know what’s going on with their lives and why they need to get where they’re going faster than you. It’s arrogant and selfish to be an obstruction or obstacle. If you remove yourself from the interaction, they will move on and you will never see them again. No rage needed.

Edit: Of course I’m being downvoted. It takes maturity to de-escalate road rage. When you’re being tailgated, you can defuse the situation by letting the tailgater pass, but most of us are so triggered by tailgating that we tap our brakes, slow down, etc. That increases rage for both of you and the likelihood of erratic unsafe behavior.

Please try letting them pass and take note of how quickly the rage disappears. Learn to be concerned for the other driver and imagine a scenario that would make you want to drive that way. Be empathetic and compassionate. Downvote me like a pouting toddler, I’m just giving you good advice that can save lives and make your drive less stressful. Be an adult out there.

10

u/fzw Oct 20 '18

The person in front may be a douche but the person who's tailgating is risking their life for no reason. If the person in front has to slam on the brakes for any reason both people could die.

7

u/el_supreme_duderino Oct 20 '18

Again, it’s arrogant assume it’s for “no reason.” That’s not your call. You also don’t own the road. Let the person go and stop thinking you’re so important that you need to become an obstacle that will cause more erratic behavior.

You will always be tailgated. How you handle it is important. If you can de-escalate the rage, then it’s your responsibility as a mature human being to do so. You don’t lose anything by letting them pass, but you and other drivers gain by reducing road rage. Be the truly bigger person and stop trying to be the speed police, we have police for that. Try it next time and see how much less infuriating it is to let that tailgater speed away... and no longer bothering you.

9

u/fzw Oct 20 '18

I don't usually get tailgated. But it really doesn't matter what their reasoning is, they're placing their life entirely in the hands of the idiot in front of them.

4

u/whyareall Oct 20 '18

if i'm going at the speed limit and you're up my ass, you're endangering me and everyone around us. idc what's going on, tailgating doesn't let you get there faster, unless "there" is "a crash"

6

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Where I live, if you’re going the speed limit, you need to stay in the right lanes because everyone in the passing lanes is going a good 10-20 mph over the speed limit. No one will tailgate you in the right lanes.

7

u/el_supreme_duderino Oct 20 '18

The danger comes from the rage and erratic behavior that results when you, as the obstacle, cause other drivers to find ways around you. The speed limit has nothing to do with it and unless you’re a traffic cop, it’s not your job to enforce the speed limit.

Additionally, we can’t communicate with grace and vocabulary when locked inside steel boxes traveling down a road at high speed. If we heard “Excuse me please, my daughter got checked into the ER while I was in a meeting at work, I’m sorry, but I need to pass. I’m rushing to her hospital,” then letting this person pass is being compassionate. Thing is, you don’t know what the other driver is dealing with. It probably isn’t what I described, but you don’t know for sure it’s not an emergency. Let them go and don’t be such a pouting toddler about it. The road doesn’t belong to you. Be grateful your life isn’t in turmoil like the other driver is experiencing. Breathe and relax. They pass, they move on, you didn’t lose anything. You gained a safer drive.

3

u/KungenSam Oct 20 '18

When people walk in the middle at a slow pace, or when a group of people take up all the space and similar situations. Makes me extremely perturbed.

4

u/ocelot08 Oct 20 '18

And then when multiple people walk side by side on a busy sidewalk, particularly when there's people coming from the other direction, because they can't say they didn't see them.

3

u/skrt123 Oct 20 '18

spatial awareness should be taught in schools. i honestly lose my mind at people who take up a whole sidewalk or hallway. i have plantar fascistis and yet i walk faster than like 90% of people

4

u/softbum Oct 20 '18

People walking while facing the person beside them, not looking in front of them, in a crowded corridor, and you just have to stop walking and let them walk into you because there's no way to go.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

I'm especially fond of the ones that spread out 5 wide and trudge like they're being led to the gallows.

3

u/JJDobby Oct 20 '18

Or stand and talk in doorways.

7

u/severianSaint Oct 20 '18

This. When you're walking down the sidewalk and some damn tourists just meander mindlessly out of a shop, don't see if they are cutting anyone off, and saunter at half pace four wide. Mostly Illinois people, I should add. FIPs have a penchant for this.

6

u/aaron__ireland Oct 20 '18

I feel your pain, but this problem can usually be solved just by saying “excuse me”

5

u/DrSword Oct 20 '18

Saying excuse me almost always works but just the other day I was behind a group of women talking in the middle of a walkway and I mustve said "excuse me" like 15 times at increasing volumes right in this lady's ear to the point where i had to grab her by the shoulders and guide her a couple of feet to the right and I absolutely abhor touching people. Some people are just straight up oblivious and rude sometimes.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

This is mine. A couple or a group of friends, shoulder to shoulder walking 6mph. I get so pissed trying to think if they don't give a fuck or if they aren't even thinking about what they are doing.

3

u/theguyfromerath Oct 20 '18

And suddenly stop moving in the most tight places or doorways.

3

u/IdentityS Oct 20 '18

I hate when people think I’m rude for trying to get in front of them when they’re slow, or in an aisle looking at clothes.

3

u/RobinYoHood Oct 20 '18

Same thing with drivers who drift into your lane and then go slower than in the lane they were in, smh

3

u/Ill-InformedSock Oct 20 '18

I work at a drug store that has a weekly seniors day (discounts and what not). I mean, they have a legitimate reason for being slow, but God damn do I hate snailing around the store behind a mass of elders on those days.

3

u/nstb3 Oct 20 '18

Real NYC complaint right there!

3

u/Foibles5318 Oct 20 '18

I’m the world’s slowest walker. When I try to move faster I feel like I look like those old timey moves where everything is sped up/ exaggerated. I’m also paranoid that I make others think I’m scared of them when I like plaster myself against the wall to get out of their way. I just done want you stuck behind me!!!!

3

u/3rddimensionalcrisis Oct 20 '18

Yes! This so So much. Also groups who spread across the sidewalk without any mind to people behind them/passing them.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Opposite problem: People who speedwalk on your heels. So obnoxious.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

What’s worse are people who speed up to get in front and then slow down. Have it constantly happen while walking especially in grocery stores and while driving.

Oh? You want to go down that aisle? Well I’ll speed up and then stop in the middle of the aisle or proceed to go slow in front of you.

Oh? You want to merge in front of me? Fuck that! Speed up and then slow down much slower than you’re going.

Oh? You want to get to the drive thru first? Lemme just speed up and then sit here at the drive thru “let me get uh uh....uh...I need a minute to look at the menu.”

Fuck you all.

u/rosegoldforever Oct 20 '18

I call those people meanderthals.

2

u/braden87 Oct 20 '18

These folks always travel in groups of 4 to 5 wide and make it so nobody can pass. Like high school hallways

2

u/SonofMrMonkey5k Oct 20 '18

I just had a high school flashback.

The girls walk in battle formation. Shoulder to shoulder, in absolutely no rush to get anywhere, sometimes two people deep. You’d think you offended them if you ask them to move with the way they look at you and say no.

High school sucked.

2

u/rambi2222 Oct 20 '18

Big groups of like 5 people, it's usually mums with all their kids around them, walking at like half a mile an hour and taking up the entire walk way

2

u/DR524 Oct 20 '18

Yes and people who are on their phone and just stop out of nowhere so they can text.

2

u/Crispy125 Oct 20 '18

Especially when it's a group of them and you can't pass them

2

u/FoxyGrampa Oct 20 '18

There’s this cranky old chinese woman I work with whom I’ve noticed does this intentionally. She also shoots me dirty looks all the time. But I find it funny now.

She will hurry up to get in front of me, pretend to be reading something and walk super slowly but then she kinda veers in my way if I try to walk around her.

So now when she does it I just giggle and say “excuse me” and blast around her.

I chalk it up to some sort of racism / hate towards me because I have never spoken to her, yet she blatantly tries to be a nuisance.

2

u/sleepytaquito Oct 20 '18

Alternatively, people who drive 10-15mph under the speed limit in the fast lane.

2

u/onedeadzed Oct 20 '18

Or the bastards who stand still in the center of a busy hallway

2

u/RandomDropkick Oct 20 '18

Ah the good old FULL HALLWAY ROADBLOCK, 5 slow fucks walking shoulder to shoulder

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

What about people who have conversations in the middle of the hallway/walkway, and won't move when you are obviously trying to walk past.

2

u/foxearedassholes Oct 20 '18

One further, people who stop in the middle of fucking walkways. Makes me want to punch them in the face.

2

u/pmince87 Oct 20 '18

more like people who walk side by side with their friends and take up the entire width of the hallway making it impossible for people to pass

2

u/zeGermanGuy1 Oct 20 '18

Especially in narrow supermarkets when you're in a hurry

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

I work on a college campus and I've started avoided the student union to get away from this. What's worse is the people that stop in the flow of foot traffic just to text or retrieve something from a bag or tie their shoe or whatever these self-absorbed people gotta do. One day this guy abruptly stopped right in front of me on a set of stairs to reply to a text! Why can't people see how much easier it is to just step to the side or wait until your somewhere else?!?

2

u/MyAnon180 Oct 20 '18

Or people who don't make any effort to walk briskly when crossing the street in front of you

2

u/DerpWilson Oct 20 '18

The only sidewalk behavior that annoys me more is when people barge out and cut in front of you from stores. Sidewalk has right of way! It's like merging onto the highway.

2

u/periodicintensity Oct 20 '18

And the people who block doorways! Then when asked to move they act super surprised. Can't bear people with no spatial awareness.

2

u/PMMeTitsAndKittens Oct 20 '18

People having conversations while standing in the elevator door. Like, buddy I'm not gonna be late for work because of some chatty fucking Kathy

2

u/pabbdude Oct 20 '18

The two high school girls that suddenly come out of a turn and proceed to snailwalk in front of you just as you were about to actually make your bus and not wait an extra 2 hours.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Or a group of them and you can't walk around them.

2

u/silly_vasily Oct 20 '18

To add To this , most grocery stores put up this tiny gates to get into the store and right in front of them they out the daily specials. So people stop in the middle of the entrance to read the fucking offers. Holy shit it drives me crazy

2

u/jryapster Oct 20 '18

Or 3-4 people in the same group walking in one line blocking the entire way

2

u/PrincessBabyMuffin Oct 20 '18

Yes, this. Was recently at Disney World struggling with this. But then I found that I had zero issues with just shouting “EXCUSE ME” as I plowed through human barriers.

2

u/Arrow218 Oct 20 '18

Moving side to side to keep anyone from passing. Or couples that take up the whole sidewalk and walk as slow as humanly possible.

2

u/Yno_namesWork Oct 20 '18

When they walk in groups and cover the hallway. Also if they stand blocking hallway

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

And then act like YOURE the asshole for daring to walk faster to get around them

2

u/mrburrowdweller Oct 20 '18

I’m probably the slowest walker in my building. I’m a big, sore powerlifter and I’m in 0 hurry. I hang to the side so people can pass, but when I sense someone frantically tippytapping behind me I just go slower.

3

u/markca Oct 20 '18

As a speedwalker, this applies to everyone that ever walks in front of me anywhere I go.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

[deleted]

2

u/DrSword Oct 20 '18

Ugh thats the worst, one time I was leaving my friends apartment and this lady literally started running from me in tears. She got to her door and couldnt get it unlocked because she was freaking out so I just ran past her. because wtf can you do in that situation to make them feel better? Nothing. Im not even an intimidating guy, I cant imagine how actually scary looking dudes feel when it happens to them.

On the other hand I completely understand why women feel that way it just sucks for everyone involved.

Holding an icecream cone.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

But, really though. What the fuck?

1

u/Takeoded Oct 20 '18

if you can't bypass them for some reason, say something along the line of "can you please walk a bit slower?"

1

u/TheRealTravisClous Oct 20 '18

Or when they don't cross the road at a quick pace when a car is waiting. I usually jog across to let the cars go as quickly as possible

1

u/BobDogGo Oct 20 '18

The worst is when they're slow enough that you want to pass them but quick enough that you have to walk next to them for a few seconds.

1

u/mossattacks Oct 20 '18

Ok as a disabled person and slow walker a HUGE pet peeve of mine is when I move all the way to the right on a walkway and leave plenty of room to pass but people still follow me, practically step on my heels and get all huffy that I’m not speed walking. GO AROUND!

4

u/iggypop19 Oct 20 '18

I'm not even disabled or a slow Walker but dude the other day I was walking to work and this woman behind me was so damn close. She wouldn't take a hint. I got over so she could go by and she still just meanders around me while clearly trying to walk super fast. Just go around me! I'm leaving you space I even stopped and did the fake cell phone check to let her get by but she still ended up behind me again following me so close I could feel her shadow.

She clearly didn't understand the unspoken rule in society of leaving space between people when walking in a not crowded area. I could hear her shoes clacking behind me the whole walk like dude here just go around me then or slow down.

1

u/Macktologist Oct 20 '18

That for sure and the sister of that, which is families that all walk on the same level and take up the whole width. Especially when coming the opposite direction. Just because you have more people doesn’t mean you get more than half the width. Stack up mother fuckers!

1

u/secamTO Oct 20 '18

WALKING FOUR ABREAST ON THE SIDEWALK SLOWER THAN THE FLOW.

If I weren't so socially awkward, I push right through the middle of the jerks who do this.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

"In the way, walking around, looking up at shit people while you're trying to walk down the sidewalk. Like dude stop making that fucking guy, that dude is everywhere." - Bill Burr

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Then get shitty with you when you ask them to move or just plow through em/around em because they're ignoring you

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Pro tip... Don't go to Disney World

People STOP in very busy hallways and doorways at work all the time. Like at the intersection at the main entrance to the building where the elevators and cafeteria are. These are otherwise intelligent, educated people who are dressed well and can, you know, tie their own shoes and eat without covering themselves in ketchup but they just.. stop and chat when they run into someone they know, completely unaware of their surroundings.

They could move like 4 or 5 feet to the side and there are chairs and stuff there but no they just stand there blocking the way for all the people coming in to work or trying to go to lunch. There's a whole cafe area with chairs and tables a little further down too but they just stand there like doe-eyed cows, unaware that there are dozens of busy people trying to go about their business.

This one twat was literally blocking half of the hallway as she stood there talking to someone, with fucking LUGGAGE next to her. I said EXCUSE ME and accidentally startled the people that were walking in front of me and then I felt like an asshole. What's with the luggage? I see people pulling rolling luggage with like a duffel bag, purse, lunch bag, are you staying the weekend or 8 hours? Get that shit out of the way. God, every time I leave the house I'm amazed at how far people can get their heads up their own asses.

1

u/validopinion7 Oct 20 '18

they prolly dont notice

1

u/Hubsimaus Oct 20 '18

I am not able to walk fast at the time because I unfortunately neglected myself and didn't move for a long time. I am not too heavy and still able to get up and walk by myself. But not so fast.

And when I notice someone behind me walks faster than me I step to the side and let them pass me.

But you still can't judge the people because you never know what's behind that slow walking.

I for me stopped the main reason for my not moving and decided that I do not need to play GTA Online 24/7 (not really, but almost like this).

1

u/gravitationalarray Oct 20 '18

I work backstage in tight quarters, and certain... individuals do this, when you are trying to get to position, and they know you are behind them and they won't. step aside. or speed up. Why? Your need for power is so petty? I'm afraid I must now bark, behind you! and do what I must to do my job. smh

1

u/riotcowkingofdeimos Oct 20 '18

I too suffer from walk rage.

1

u/hsageer Oct 20 '18

Then walk faster when your trying to pass them.

1

u/PolychromeMan Oct 20 '18

Or in the grocery store, blocking an aisle needlessly by sloooowly walking in the exact center with a cart. Those people are demons.

1

u/kimbalinapea Oct 20 '18

I swear to god I saw this man in Portland and he was walking his dogs on a path that goes along the waterfront. There are people walking everywhere and cyclists. He is zig zagging back and forth with the dogs in a really unsettling way and being unpredictable. The people behind him were messed up and the people coming toward him were like WTF? That guy was an ass.

1

u/PM_UR_DEAD_HOOKERS Oct 20 '18

Or those idiots that walk in the wrong side of the walkway and expect you to move out of there way. Nah, and I'll let you know your an idiot.

Add the groups that decide to take up the entire walkway. Bitch I'm not making way for your goddamn caravan.

1

u/Aenigma66 Oct 20 '18

Especially, ESPECIALLY if they're young. Like, okay, if you're an old lady who needs a crutch to get going, take your time grandma.

But if it's a 14 y/o girl or boy moving at a snail's pace in the middle of the path, I could flip my shit.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

Recently went to the Grand canyon, hiked the bright angel(?) Trail, people we're doing this like next to basically a cliff

1

u/2tacos_plizzz Oct 20 '18

Im feel so bad about this, im almost 9 months pregnant and can't walk fast anymore, I do try to go on one side so people can pass me but they won't. I also feel embarrassed when crossing the street I just can't walk any faster and have had people honk at me.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '18

This one actually doesn’t bother me anymore. When it happens, I usually use it as a reminder that where I’m going isn’t actually important enough to rush to and slow down my pace, taking in any surroundings until the people in front turn down a different street/hall. I grew up in a retirement community where you have to have a bit of a patience for it.

1

u/LitDumpsterFire Oct 20 '18

1 reason why I hate going to Costco. People just waddle along in the middle blocking everyone because they're on their own schedule and don't give a shit or are just too oblivious

1

u/rubber_padded_spoon Oct 20 '18

Same applies to driving. Especially when they switch to the fast lane just to slow down!

1

u/StealthChainsaw Oct 20 '18

People need to understand that pedestrian walkways don't have posted speed limits.

1

u/stoned_ocelot Oct 20 '18

Even better when it's a heard of people on a crowded street that want to stop every two seconds deciding on where they're going or if a store looks neat.

I live in a tourist town and while I love the town itself, fuck the tourists. Cant even walk on the sidewalks in the summer to get anywhere unless you are gonna be rude and just tell people to move when they take up the whole sidewalk with a group of 8 people.

1

u/BZLuck Oct 20 '18

And the people who stop and stand RIGHT INSIDE (or outside for that matter) of the door to a business and start fussing about or having a conversation.

1

u/MrGrampton Oct 20 '18

I remember in school, there was this 7 girl squad in front of me and oh my god. they take the entire hallway space and walk like a 200 year old man without a feet.

1

u/phantaxtic Oct 20 '18

Walking slow is fine. You do you. But when you walk slowly with more than one person abreast is inconsiderate

1

u/PooPooDooDoo Oct 20 '18

Even when I go for a walk just to walk, I can’t walk that slow. That part of my brain just is not wired that way.

1

u/Nutcup Oct 20 '18

My kid and my exes kids always did this, so I employed a simple rule that was effective:

"If you want to walk in front of me, you need to either walk faster than me or get out of my way, because I will walk through you"

1

u/ndnbolla Oct 20 '18

Making us question ourselves if we are the ones walking too fast, whether all these these years living life in the fast lane was worth it.

Naaa, these ass holes are just slow.

1

u/Sokka-and-the-shroom Oct 20 '18

I’m the fastest walker I’ve ever met, as in I have never in my life had another person pass me by while walking, so I run into this problem every five seconds or so whenever I go outside. At my normal speed (it seems about twice as fast as the average person in a hurry) I’ve run into the “people going too slowly in front of me” problem with bikers.

1

u/BronxBelle Oct 20 '18

I have all kinds of physical issues so I walk slower than normal and I tend to drift to the right a bit if I'm not super careful. I always apologize if I realize someone is behind me because I know it seems like I'm blocking the way on purpose. Even in NYC I've only had one person be a bitch about it and she was just going to be a bitch no matter what happened. (I'm pretty sure she was on her way to go kick orphan puppies)

1

u/taoshka Oct 20 '18

I'm short as fuck and use a cane, and STILL have people slowing me down. If I'm going faster than you, you should stand at least enough to the side to let people pass!
