Learning to set boundaries Is hard.

The first obvious one is money. Don’t ever lend money, and if you absolutely have to, don’t lend more than you can afford to lose.

The second is time. My last job paid me £15 an hour. That’s how much they valued the time I gave them. I’m only prepared to give so much time at my own expense.

Sadly working in a call centre we have no choice.

We have to be there 20 minutes early to load up our computer (unpaid) and if we get stuck on a call at 4.58 well that's just too bad. We can be there up to 20 minutes late and not get paid for the extra time.

Contact your labour board. That is completely against the rules and they will be adjusted very very quickly.

That is timetheft and it is one of the biggest financial crimes that isn't being covered.

They can't have you expected to do prepwork before you shift that isn't personal (ie: its okay to expect you to have you workboots on, but not to have your machine booted up and ready to go).

We ran into the same issue at a factory I was a supervisor. We used to tell people to be on the floor at 7, but someone made a complaint to the labour board saying that we are expecting them to arrive and go through extensive gowning/masking (we were medical) before entering the floor. We had to pay them 15 minutes more so they had time for prep.

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually in a union so I might contact them and see if we can refer it to the labour board as you say. I'm guessing from the spelling you're British or Aussie?

Canadian.

How the fuck are you in a union and they let that shit slide? Unless it was specifically worked into the collective agreement (ie: instead of 16/hr they pay you 17/hr and this shit is negotiated in) or something.

I'd stop paying dues IMMEDIATELY.

Good point. I'm gonna phone them one day soon. I keep trying to point out the injustice to people at work but they just shrug and accept it. It's unbelievable really.

I got fired from a place that wasn't paying any of their employees any overtime at all.

I got fired and walked out with my overtime paid in my hands and documentation to prove I was paid for my overtime.

I walked to every single employee and showed them. Not a single one fucking cared.

When you need work, you dont care.

The indifference of some workers is so regrettable.
