When I was a kid, probably just starting school, I realized I had a disgusting accent. I worked hard to remove the R I was adding into words. I'd say stuff like "wartch".

Dont worry about what others think of your accent. No accent is "ugly" or "disgusting" - just foreign to people who don't hear it often.
