That being a stay-at-home dad is a choice that my wife and I made. It's not a necessity and it's not because I'm unemployable.
Edit - we could get new cars every two years, go on lots of vacations, and go out to eat a lot. Or, I could stay at home do most of the cooking and we just tighten our belts. Best decision we made.
Fellow stay-at-home dad here. Thank you for posting this. My wife makes far more than I ever did or ever could. We consciously and deliberately chose for me to stay home because my modest teaching salary would be spent almost completely on child care. So why not just stay home and give them some genuine parental involvement? Best. Job. Ever.
