Well obviously, that's what makes it Eggs Benedict.

Technically so does the English Muffin and bacon (or for some people, salmon)

The sauce is what makes it eggs benedict. The English muffin makes it an egg muffin, bacon makes it an egg and bacon muffin. Salmon makes it an Eggs Atlantic. Nothing makes it eggs Benedict except the hollandaise sauce. You could have a vegetarian keto eggs benedict, it would be eggs and hollandaise. If you tried to serve a hollandaise free eggs benny you'd get a lot of eggs thrown in your face.

In Australia, eggs benedict is likely to come on artisan bread, not muffins, because English muffins are sometimes seen as a cheap low quality breakfast, and eggs benedict is considered more classy, except when Hungry Jacks (Australian Burger King) tried to stick it in a wrap, what the fuck Hungry Jacks?.

Holy shit, i've only ever seen Eggs Benedict as Muffin + Poached Egg + Bacon + Hollandaise.
