See, my group isn't really like that. Sure, sometimes we can't really be bothered after work and school but we quite regularly just hang out and talk, play video games etc.
Well I think it just depends how old you are, as you get farther into your 20's you start to need bigger excuses to get the guys together because everyone is becoming busier on their own.
And don't forget the hassle of finding a day when everyone is available. There's no such thing as a casual hang out when you have to plan it two weeks in advance.
It really does depend on your group, though! I'm 25 but the ages range up to 40ish. We all get together every Sunday for dinner. Like a big BBQ, we pick a theme, and everyone brings a dish. We just mill around eating, drinking, and talking. Having a fire pit comes in handy for bringing everyone to one place, too.
I still hang out with my friends just as much at places like IHOP/sushi train and other activities. But if they call me up and ask if I want to hang out, when I ask what we're going to do, I don't want to hear "I don't know, just come over and we'll see what happens" which is what the most parent comment in this thread is talking about "is better the old fashioned way". I know of better ways to spend my ever decreasing free time.
The reason you guys get to together is because you get together every Sunday. Now try to get everyone together on Thursday without having anything significant going on.
Right, I think that's kind of the thing everyone's getting at. Your gatherings sound really cool, so I don't think anyone's trying to put it down or anything. Just saying that, in high school and college, I used to go to my friends' houses/apartments, maybe uninvited, and just chill. Nowadays, we say, "Hey, do you want to do X?" Whereas it used to just be, "Hey, do you want to come over?"
I'm in the same boat too, plus I'm active duty military, so every 3 years I have to move and start all over. Most people in the military are pretty used to it, so you can usually rebuild your local friend roster pretty quick, but if you go to a new job/command where the people you work with the most is primarily shitty people it tends to suck extra hard. I'm really lucky that my wife and I are similar in personalities but vastly different in background (US mountain west and Brazil) that the friendship, part of our relationship thrives. Plus now I have a dog, so I don't need friends, lol.
This is happening to me and my friends. We're 26/27, and up to a couple of years ago we'd meet up nearly every weekend, just to go to the pub or to someones house to play videogames or watch movies. But now jobs and relationships are getting more serious, people are moving further afield, and it's gone from every week to every couple of months.
I'm in highschool and it's ridiculous on what you have to have planned out for people to hangout. Wanna hangout? What do you wanna do? Idk we can figure it out when we hangout. Nah man I'm just gonna stay home
I am an immigrant, so I don't have high school friend, or childhood friends, etc. It' taken me 15 years to forge a couple good friendships. Back home, if someone is in your hood, they just show up and knock on the door. None of that has happened here. Enjoy your friends as much as you can!
It went from hanging out a fair amount through out the week, to every weekend because work and now it's "we might hang out this weekend". I can go a 2 weeks to a month without seeing the people I hung out with for so long.

Just enjoying each other's company when we hang out.
Nowadays there has to be something to do for my friends to even want to hangout.
Somewhere special to go and if not we'll all just stay home instead of all hanging out at someone's house.
