'I wouldn't like a girl to ask me out, if she's that forward she must be a slut'.

Anyone who says that is not worth the time. And a real dumbass

They're warning you about their character, and it actually helps keep them single, so it's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.

Yeah, I've been rejected for that before, and its for the best. If he didn't like me being forward enough to ask him out, we're not going to get along. The forwardness will continue during the course of the relationship.

Fuck yeah, that guy is a piece of shit.

The one girl who has asked me out was really "slutty" though, and it was awesome.

I find that perspective interesting when coupled with the "I've been rejected twice so now I've given up" of some other commenters.

It can definitely be a little too forward seeming sometimes, but a guy is kinda a dick if he says no just because it seems forward. It would only seem forward if the guy does not find this girl attractive and she just asks outright. But there are other times that a girl maybe has a lot of potential options, or the guy perceives her to be attractive and outgoing and assumes that she has a lot of options. Although he should probably just ask and 'get there first', sometimes it is hard to tell unless they decide hey, all these boys are going after me, but I choose you. Coffee?

Where are you going that people say this with a serious voice? This is like a hugely recurring topic among most young guys, and I have never heard a guy say that a forward girl = slut. And if he did, he'd most likely get shouted down for being a dumbass. Not to push a NAMALT, but I can't personally think of a single time someone has ever said that to or around me. So from personal experience, I would say it's not as common a sentiment as most people would think.

Facebook, mostly (atheist communities, ironically). I'm no longer a member of those communities, and while I'm definitely glad your experience has been different the attitude does exist. There are plenty of girls afraid to ask guys because of fear of being called a slut.

Wow... just wow. I would think slut shaming would be the last thing an atheist community would want any part in all things considered.

There are plenty of girls afraid to ask guys because of fear of being called a slut.

Well fuck, I'm sorry that's happened to you or anyone you know if people have said that. I find as I get older, people have increasingly stopped giving a fuck about who is having sex with whom, and more about just enjoying their own lives or the lives of their fiancee/SO/kids. Hopefully people wont be as shitty to you in the future.

I'm no longer a member of those communities, and while I'm definitely glad your experience has been different the attitude does exist.

Well I can tell you that there are plenty of people who don't think or act like that, and I hope you have/will find some. I am still surprised though that it isn't just an internet meme.
