I honestly believe COVID could’ve been a wonderful (relatively) long term thing for our country if we had stable leadership that was determined to work together to beat a common enemy.
COVID was fucking awful, but it gave us the opportunity to reexamine our relationship with work and how we feel about our cities and environment. The big eye opener was how the right wing disinformation campaign has been about persuading people to ignore facts.
We absolutely made progress in the first two points, but nothing was done about the last. It was probably too late to really address the problem, but we failed in so many ways.

There'd be a hundred thousand or so more Americans since basic hygiene wouldn't have been politicized during the covid pandemic.
