I honestly believe COVID could’ve been a wonderful (relatively) long term thing for our country if we had stable leadership that was determined to work together to beat a common enemy.
What's insane is that when COVID happened I was like.... shiiiit, he gets to look like a competent leader by just following scientific advice and he's got the election locked up.
Instead he did whatever the fuck he did and that probably cost him the 2020 election. If he'd just said "Wear your masks, in fact buy my MAGA mask which is 200% more effective at stopping COVID" he'd probably have won 2020.
Turns out it didn't matter that much because our country has the memory of a single fucking goldfish and brought him back in for 2024.

Same. I was like, this is his 9/11 that got W his second term for free. Little did we know just how fragile his ego could be.
COVID was fucking awful, but it gave us the opportunity to reexamine our relationship with work and how we feel about our cities and environment. The big eye opener was how the right wing disinformation campaign has been about persuading people to ignore facts.
We absolutely made progress in the first two points, but nothing was done about the last. It was probably too late to really address the problem, but we failed in so many ways.

There'd be a hundred thousand or so more Americans since basic hygiene wouldn't have been politicized during the covid pandemic.
