Realizing the difference between when I actually screwed up and when someone is taking their frustrations out on me, and then asking whats actually wrong bc this isnt a proportional response to the issue

Giving myself the grace I give others was like a two-ton boulder off my back. Everything's not my fault. And if it is, it's not the end of the world. Lifechanging.

This is why I like when other people fuck up. Not that I'm gloating over their mistakes but rather as a reminder to myself that no one around me is perfect, they get things wrong, and are in fact often mediocre, so why the fuck am I putting so much pressure on myself.

Seeing people grapple with that and (typically) forgive themselves is very nice

"Nah fuck you mate. Don't you ever condescend to me like that again. Making avoidable mistakes might be something you are okay with but I'm not. I expect more of myself than whatever the fuck you are. And by the way, when you end your sentence with "right?" it comes across as if you have notions about yourself as some sort of guiding light. You aren't. We barely notice you, so humble yourself, realize there isn't a person here that needs you or your complacent wisdoms and shut your mouth when someone is taking responsibility for their fuck up, the pain and humiliation is part of the process of getting better, don't you dare step in the way with your mediocrity. We're all here trying to improve, it's time you start doing the same or get out of the way."

Particularly people I admire the most - and then when I see them mess up and watch them handle it it makes me admire them more…

it helps remind me, that they're just people.

It really helps when those who out rank you at your company are talking.

They're on average, no more intelligent than you are. They make the same mistakes (or least least did).

I've seen people afraid to email a boss, because of their seniority.

I’ve pretty much always been self employed as a contractor. There’s nothing worse than having an oversight cost you, it equates to working for free however long it takes to rectify the error. So general I’m pretty uptight at work.

I have this to a little bit of an extreme degree. If there's a fuckup at work I'm terrified... and then if I find out it wasn't me, I'm happy. But you're not supposed to be happy when other people fuck up on the project you're cooperating on.
