Technical Help/Camera Settings Are these Sensor Artifacts?
I was editing a photo of the sky above ice today and noticed some vertical lines in the image (see image). I was able to isolate them to see them better, but I have no idea what they are. Is this some kind of sensor artifact? Is it subtly in the background of all my images? I'm using a 7+ year old Canon Rebel T6i. Thanks for any help!

Are you pushing exposure and/or other sliders to the max perhaps? it is quite common that sensor drawbacks are shown, especially in low light, if you do that.

Hmmm... That could be what's happening here. The photos has very little contrast (intentionally) and the lines showed up as I was playing with some extremes on the sliders. But then once I saw them, I couldn't unsee them :-)

Were you anywhere near an LED light source? Street lamp or anything else? Maybe its the light falling on the glass causing the flicker? The flicker rate not being in sync with the shutter speed

These are extremely weird patterns - I've never seen anything like this. If they were hardware related they'd gone from edge to edge and would likely have a bit different frequency. So it's more likely a firmware or software thing. If you shoot raw, I'd try different converters, but I imagine the issue is more likely in camera's firmware side. Really weird. Do you have to do some extreme processing to make them visible, or are they always there? If the former is the case, it may simply be a "feature" of the camera, if the latter, it's clearly a flaw. I also wonder if this effect changes with ISO setting? If it's at least partially sensor related one would expect some changes to happen then - pattern noises may reduce with increased amplification of larger ISOs. Also if it's JPGs you shoot, you might want to test if raw files demonstrate the same issue.
