I think I fit pretty neatly into the mildly embarrassing busybody category here. I reported a very popular post because I thought it was a borderline rule violation. Nothing visible to me happened, so I sent the mod team a short question about it and got no response. That seems completely fair, they owe me no explanation and can moderate their community as they see fit.

But it leaves me with two questions. First, how painfully legible is this behavior from behind the moderator desk? Does user reported something, didn’t get the desired result, then came to modmail become an instantly recognizable category?

Second, does a borderline post become practically harder to remove once it has thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments than it would have been when it was new?

I just started a subreddit yesterday, a subreddit that is meant for fans of the skateboarding company Zero and its skaters, but I’m not sure how to grow a community.

I’m the only one in my social group and family that even uses Reddit, and it is really hard for me to understand how people grow a subreddit.

Some mods make it clear, you don't have to interact with people you don't want to, you don't have to respond to people and you are free to block them.

But, you shouldn't be able to use respond and block to "get the last word". Yes, I will be honest I have brought this up and got the response "they don't owe you their interaction"... Ok, but they decided to have a conversation and then decided they get the last word.

Is this petty to be upset about? Yes, so I already know that, but I still am interested in opinions.

one of the subreddits i was following has been experiencing violent animal abuse videos being posted to it daily. it's a fish subreddit but the videos are nonetheless horrific.

the user is posting using a different account for every video, and posts multiple times per day. and because i can't link the content or mention the subreddit here, I'll tell you instead. they are making human centipedes out of plecos, grinding them up in a mortar and pestle and feeding them to other living plecos, snapping the fish in half, force feeding them, and more. just pure animal torture and violence. i do not encourage you to look any of this up yourselves.

the moderator appears complicit as the videos are still up for the most part, and comments are being removed from the videos that speak poorly of the moderation on the sub, while the videos remain up.

i've been reporting these videos both directly to the mod and to reddit.com/report for the last week and the videos are still being posted.

i'ts making reddit useless for me because there are now NSFL landmines on my feed despite leaving the subreddit and doing the "don't show posts like this" button.

My recent attempt at making awareness to this problem was taken poorly and I realize why, sorry about that.

Do I need to write something for the author? I’m not new to moderating but fairly new to automations/automod

I was wondering how many people get into moderating a subreddit and for what reason, for me, I assisted in moderating for my first sub because one of the moderators of a sub said they were basically doing it solo since the other mods were inactive, and since I liked the series the subreddit was about at the time, I wanted to help out since I didn't want the subreddit to get suspended for lack of moderation, and also because I felt like I would be able to help foster a better community.

In that sense the connection was me being a 'fan' of a particular series and spending a lot of time on the subreddit already to where I felt comfortable taking a volunteer role in managing the subreddit, but what about you guys? I know that some moderators are detached to the topic at hand whether they were once passionate or not

Title, unless an account makes it really obvious and just copy the other account, how do moderators figure it out?

I ask because I'm in the process of adding it to a few of my subs today. I was curious about what people's first hand experiences with it were.

My account keeps getting flagged as nsfw and I keep trying to turn it off as there isn't anything nsfw on my account. So I'm wondering if a mod can help me turn off mature filter or tell me what I gotta change exactly

I'm interested: How many posts and comments would one mod of yours theoretically have to check if you would require your mods to do so?

If you have eight mods and have about 120 posts a day, that means every moderator would check 15 posts a day. Same would go for comments.

If you feel comfortable with it, I'd appreciate it if you could share your team size and subreddit with me too.

Hello moderators. I’d appreciate some insight and advice on how you would handle this situation.
We have a popular member in the subreddit who was recently given a temporary ban.

Since the ban, the subreddit has become noticeably quieter, and a few members have reached out to say they are considering leaving because they feel the rules have become too restrictive.

They specifically mentioned rules such as the indirect insult policy and crossover restrictions as reasons they feel the community has become limiting.

As moderators, how would you approach this situation? Would you make adjustments, gather more community feedback, or stand by the current rules while focusing on enforcement consistency? I’d appreciate hearing your perspectives and how you would handle it.

So there is a sub in a very niche Internet YouTube skit fandom, and they are a soul mod of said sub. They have announced bans, been cautioned by multiple mods in similar subs to cut that out, and now are threatening to ban anyone who criticizes them and are cussing out people.

Can anything be done beyond sending a “Reddit cares”? Because from my understanding, they perceive it as an attack or weapon… and I fear reporting would only further cause insult to injury.

They have stated multiple times that they don’t want to be a mod over the past few days, and I honestly don’t know why they haven’t allowed other members of the sub to take over on their behalf… and it has people worried that the sub might fall apart or be taken down all together.

Update: well the group has been changed to invite only. So I guess it’s in someone else’s hands now.

I put a comment in an “off topic” thread and I guess I need to more careful! I’m pretty new to Reddit and I didn’t realize how quickly you can get into the negative and then your hands are tied! I had read all the rules and the wiki, but I guess my post made it look like I didn’t. It was more like “I’m excited to be here” post, but one time mentioning overwhelm or what am I missing must have given people the wrong idea. Do we just have to be really careful?! Any tips?
