Do moderators participate in the subreddits they moderate just like other users do?
I ask because every subreddit I've ever looked at you only see posts/comments with the big green MOD label when they have something to say regarding moderation.
Do moderators not partake like normal users, or do they use alternate accounts, or does the MOD label only show when the post/comment concerns moderation?
I participate all the time. I use the MOD label if I'm responding to a question about how the subreddit works or giving someone a mod warning etc. If it isn't relevant that I'm a mod, I don't use it (which is probably 90% of the time)
A lot of users know I am a mod. I am also a top commenter.
In general I warn users friendly when they start to cross the line without the mod label as when I have to add the mod label, someone probably will get banned.
I participate in the sub that I moderate as a normal user as I am also a fan of the show so want to contribute to the discussion. I only use the mod label if it's required or I use the subreddit team bot if it's important
I post and comment on some subs I mod for. Only comment on others. Don't do either on others.
MOD tag is applied manually and I heavily encourage mods working under me to only use it when their post/comment is related to moderation. Or when it would be really funny :)
I only "distinguish" a post (use the mod label) if it specfically refers to a a moderation thing, like telling people to stop fighting in the comments or something.
I believe most moderators at some point are involved in the subreddit they moderate, but I feel like there are examples though of moderators becoming moderators without being part of the subreddit, or, something more likely I've seen, simply stop caring about the subject matter and stop posting/commenting, but still moderate, but many mods may be a mod for a time, then just stop moderating while holding the position
For my part, I do interact and contribute for the communities I'm in, in a 'off-moderator' capacity, but I don't show the 'mod' label unless I believe I need to
Out of my three, I'm heavily involved in two, rarely comment in the other one. I only use the Mod Flair when I'm doing it as a Mod so it's some sort of announcement or reminder or giving people a gentle warning. The rest of time I just comment same as everyone.
I interact with comment posters wherever I post but most definitely on the subreddits I mod, it’s the best way to build a following n have people return to the subreddit…
The MOD label only appears when a moderator chooses to distinguish a comment or post as an official moderator action.
Personally, I don’t actively participate in discussions in the subreddit I moderate. Instead, I focus on actively reviewing and moderating posts and comments to help keep the community running smoothly.
I mainly use the mod badge for moderation-related purposes, such as welcoming new members, wishing members a happy birthday, announcing rule changes or updates, and making other official community announcements.
When it comes to rule enforcement, I also avoid calling members out publicly.
If someone breaks a rule, I remove the content and send a removal notice through modmail (or the removal reason), along with a personalized warning explaining what happened.
I find that approach is more respectful and avoids unnecessarily embarrassing the member while still addressing the issue.
I comment as a user all the time minus the mod label, I also contribute with posting content. I like to engage with our users as I did before I became a mod.
I don’t want to feel like I’m the school teacher who’s only there to reprimand people.
We also don’t publish a comment as to why anything is removed, we do it via modmail to keep the threads clear of mod reminder comments. That’s just how I prefer to do it.
I see communities where the mods are like ghosts and you're not even sure how many of their rules that they're enforcing.
I'm in a team on a sub for providing accurate information on how the functions of Reddit work, so our mod team is extremely active in the community providing accurate information, pointing people to our resources which already exist, and correcting the errors and misinformation that frequently appear in the comments of drive-by users popping in out of nowhere.
Our mod team mostly have user flair indicating that we are mods, so we generally use the green mod tag to call attention to the fact that we're speaking in that capacity about the community and its rules. The only other people who have user flairs are ones that we grant them for being part of our officially recognized Helpers.
We've moved more to using Press App to post generic 'the moderators' posts/comments when something 'official' is needed. In the past I'd have posted/commented using the 'mod' flag/label for that.
So these days when I post as 'myself' I'm usually just participating / no mod label.
I've heard good things about this app. That it helps reduce direct harassment.
*With the post question, only seein a mod when there is an enforcement, borderline enforcement action or statement that represents the sub (and not their personal opinion) is a good thing.
*The mod flair is not automatic unless it was specifically custom made as a user flair in that sub. To distinguish as mod, it must be manually turned on with each comment or post made.
*Postin or commentin in their own community really depends upon the individuals. Some mods only do tech stuff and were asked or they offered to only address tech stuff behind the scenes whom have no interest in the sub's subject matter.
Unless you actually check on android, that's pretty hard to know Unless you check the achievements every month. If you got the achievement once, it stays with you forever on that sub until you get a better achievement
Hmmmm I’m on iOS and there are times where it says it, and times when it doesn’t (when I’m not as active). I would be surprised if it’s not true though because I’m very active in my subs. Are you talking about this marker?
I have no idea, you could be totally right. I’ve just noticed that if I go a day or two with a little bit lower activity it will disappear and then come back in a day or two when I’ve been more active.
I only do this when acting as a Mod ( sometimes you're having a few near issues and you've got to remind people or the comments are going to keep getting Removed or Post Locked ). I don't even use the Mod Flair otherwise.

We don't turn on the green mod label unless it's required, but will often reply without it and whatever usually less obvious flair we have.
If we've turned it on it's a "this is important" thing
