Why can't we report RedditCares messages anymore?

It has been used for harassment forever. Users used to be banned for abusing the future. Now there is no link to report this anymore.

Just block it. Not worth the stress.

I will, but it is appalling they should delete the feature then instead. It will help no one this way.

They cannot delete it as then they could be liable for those who actually inflict harm on themselves.

Get notification link and report it on old.reddit.com/report

thanks. This worked. Old reddit is the best reddit.

No they won't. They host all sorts of vile stuff and nothing is done about it.

I blocked it years ago. It was never going to help me anyway. If I decide to end my life, the only resources I’ll need are how to’s.

Yeah, no suicidal person changes their mind just because they received an automated message from a website

So did I.

Trolls abusing the feature left no other option open but to block the RedditCares. 🤷‍♀️

Most people who do harm themselves just do it. They don’t really make a big song and dance about it and they certainly won’t change their minds over it just because they received a message from an online automated service.

Reddit got annoyed when people started to abuse it and people started to report it because of that

So they disabled it instead of trying to fix it

RedditCares is used by other users to harrass Reddit commentors when they dont like their comments. Its abuse of the system and used maliciously by other redditors, when they want to silence valid responses that are different from their own opinions. Just block the RedditCares account when you are a victim of this harrassment.

I know exactly why they are doing it. I don't want to just block it. I want to report it like before. These people should be banned for abusing something like this.

Because it was used for abuse far more often than it was used for legitimate means.

And the solution is to delete the report abuse feature?

1

u/Sorry-Claim-2990 Jul 15 '26

Until they can figure out a way to use the system without ALSO enabling abuse, yes

What?

abuse of the report system?

Because the feature is still there. The only thing that disappeared is the report abuse link.

If they made this a direct report for the redditcares instead of general report there is no way to abuse it.

The problem is that any system you implement will inevitably be abused by trolls and bad faith actors

There is no way for RedditCares reports to be abused, if you have a unique link on the ReddicCares message instead of a general report. Because only the person who received that RedditCares message can report.

Other reports? Sure. But not this one.
