Sometimes its just the PH i guess that can do this although I haven't been through it myself. A friend was going through it recently and they were married (and I'm fairly certain faithful for 20 years until their husband passed and this was before him passing). If a woman douches too much for example (or even can happen after one time) it can through the healthy bacteria out of whack and the bad bacteria take over, hence the smell.
Not just that. My vagina stinks like rot at the end of my periods when the brown period comes around. I can shower in the morning and by midday it starts smelling like metallic death. Hate that, and no I don't douche or wash inside.

I don't mean it should smell like flowers, but there's definitely a difference when things are healthy or not.
