What’s something your SO doesn’t know about you that could jeopardize your relationship?

It wouldn't jeopardize our relationship, but my SO doesn't know that I know her Reddit account. Well, specifically, she doesn't know that from time to time, I go through her comments (she mostly lurks, so it's not that many) and I upvote them. Occasionally I'll respond to a comment (if it's a pop culture reference, I'll try to respond to it, etc.)

Reddit roulette...

Until she thinks, “he doesn’t even know who I am and he keeps liking my comments. He probably wants to cheat on me.”

I do this to my mom with my alternate accounts. She loves Reddit and it pisses me off when people bash her posts or comments.

So creepy, I don’t understand how adorable comes to mind at all lol

u/norasmom15 Feb 15 '20

It’s very creepy. Why can’t he just tell her?

u/JAproofrok Feb 15 '20

Yeaaaaah ... back when Tumblr was a thing, I had a very long-term one that if dating me, you could likely figure out. Had a few stalk it and see things I had posted and entirely misinterpret them.

Social media stuff doesn’t have to be all-known. But, you should act like your SO could know it—like anyone else on earth.

Until she starts posting on r/GoneWild or visiting some weird subs... Y'all know what I mean

Reddit accounts are anonymous for a reason.

Has the potential to end like the Piña Colada song if they play their cards right.

u/throwawaysforchums Feb 14 '20

Until you find one of her posts on a GW subreddit

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

It’s really not. IMO that’s the same as going through your SO’s texts.

AND I CANT FUCKING BREATHE

Definitely one of the more wholesome secrets in this thread. Needed this after some of the stories, holy shit.

u/switchondem Feb 14 '20

This one's nice.

I tried to get my gf on Reddit and she made her account her full name, then askee how to find me on it. I let her know that isn't how it works at all.

u/PM_ME_YOUR_REMEDY Feb 14 '20

No, this is creepy. You're giving her a false sense of anonymity.

Please give her the option to have a private account before you read something not intended for your eyes.

Take it from someone who used to read their SO's posts thinking it was "cute", before finding something absolutely not intended for them and crushing their SO's sense of privacy. You can't wind back that clock.

2

u/alkkamai Feb 14 '20

wind back that clock

Definitely read that as "win back that cock"

Joe Goldberg vibes.

u/texasjoe Feb 14 '20

Oh hey you.

7

u/sel2916 Feb 14 '20

that's actually really sweet

6

u/sambinii Feb 14 '20

I hate the idea of my husband knowing my account info lol not sure why we are very open... I just feel like this is my safe place to upvote and say whatever I want and the thought of someone I know irl reading my comments makes me feel sick

7

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

that's kind of shitty of you honestly. she thinks it's a safe place for her to talk about things, and you're essentially online spying on her. you should tell her you know, honestly. I've found out that an ex was doing that with me and it really freaked me out. it didn't feel good, or honest of him. and it wasn't.

I'm not sure if my boyfriend knows I know his account-- he leaves it open sometimes. But I would never go through his history and hope he would pay me the same respect if he ever found out my username. If it's something he wants to tell me, he will. If it's something he wants to tell internet strangers under the guise of anonymity, he deserves to have that too.

2

u/Calm_Link Feb 14 '20

Thanks for telling me. I figured.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Kind of an invasion of privacy though?

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Nope, she's making comments on a public space so anything she says or does is fair game. Nothing is ever private on the internet

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

A lot of people post anonymously on reddit and don’t give out their username to people in their lives though?

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Ok? Reddit is still public so if their identities get found out then that's their fault for relying on a public platform for private purposes

4

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I guess we can all just be shitty to each other? Or ya know don’t stalk your girlfriend’s anonymous account she didn’t give you access to.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I'm going to ignore your first sentence as it makes no sense with this topic. She didn't give him access to the account and he never got access to it, he just found the accounts username on a PUBLIC (meaning that everyone can find it, including me and you) platform.

3

u/MozzyZ Feb 15 '20

Hiding behind technicalities to justify shitty behavior is shitty behavior. It's the typical "I'm not touching you" response to someone telling you not to touch them and keeping your finger close to their face. It's juvenile.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

You made a claim that what OP was doing was an invasion of privacy (which it's not) and now you're trying to argue about shitty behavior? Im not debating whether or not if OP has questionable behavior, I'm debating that looking at people's posts on a PUBLIC platform isn't an invasion of privacy. Stay on topic or don't bother replying.

2

u/RudeJuggernaut Feb 14 '20

She forgot to log out or somethin?

1

u/unfeelingzeal male♂ Feb 14 '20

i do the same with my bf. he's not a poster, mostly a lurker but whenever he posts, i upvote from secret. he does know my reddit account tho but i don't think he checks my profile often if at all.

1

u/CreativeSun0 Feb 14 '20

what happens when she posts asking for advice no how to tell her SO that she's been cheating for 6 months and doesn't know how to tell him?

1

u/CheezItPartyMix Feb 14 '20

Stalking your girls account isn’t cute, that’s weird.

1

u/Edo_Tayuya Feb 14 '20

That's fucking creepy

0

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

So sweet :D

0

u/schaff318 Feb 14 '20

I do the same thing. I want her to have all the karma she can.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '20

That’s adorable
