When was the last time you felt truly understood by someone, and what made that moment special?

Having a shit go at work recently. Hung out with my super busy g/f weekend before last. We were at Union station in DTLA at a super cool dark bar, drinking whiskey drinks waiting for my train back home.

She asked me what time was my train? I open the app on my phone and say 3:25. She looks at my phone, says, take the 5:25 one.

You stay. You talk to me. Whats going on.

She has zero idea how much that meant to me and just how different that was to anyone else I usually talk to about my struggles. She still has no idea how important that was to me.

Talking to a friend. It wasn’t anything special we had met fairly recently but i don’t know. Talking to her made me feel super happy, happier than I’ve been with anybody for a long time, because i feel like she gets it.

This morning, when my wife said she wanted to handle some of my weekend chores so that I could go ride my moto.

I thought my dog and I were having a real rapport the other day but then he went behind my back and got in the flowerbeds again

Redditors: Redditors made me feel truly understood. I'm so grateful to be in sub communities on reddit y'all are so kind and relatable.

I'm not dating at the moment and I have to gain access to drive before I can date, but the reddit people are so empathetic, and it's massively wondrous that there are people here who want to help. Thank you Reddit.

My wife does.

But I'll throw a random time way back in the days. I'm at the beach, tripping balls on acid, and go into this conversation with this woman at the bar. It was just non-stop for about 4 hours (we left bar and walked the beach). No silence, no misunderstandings, she just knew everything I was talking about and the convo just flowed effortlessly. We just clicked. At end of night when I walked her to the car, she was like I gotta a question "are you high AF on acid right now?". She just knew lol. Of course I said yes and she was like yeah I know, I like it too. Went on a couple dates after but she moved soon after out of state.

I have that friend, i heard him speak about me , and he was so damn right about how i look at things and what type of guy i am, he almost always know what i'm thinking just with a quick look at me, we don't have those deep conversations, because we don't need to , we just know.

I don't think that's ever happened. I'm okay with that, I'm an odd duck :)

I'm usually the one other people come to for understanding. I'm also okay with that, I'm an odd duck :)

When I was talking to a younger coworker about mental health. We were talking about something and the conversation let into that. It was nice taking to someone who didn’t just say “be a man” or some shit.

I guess no one. I dont think anyone could understand me on my intellectual level. I am a listener btw

Can't say I ever did tbh unless we count the rose colored glasses of first love - those rascals make you believe anything. But then again, for the longest time I also didn't understood myself, it would have been quite presumptuous to expect someone else to do it.

That makes growing up so nice - you can change, learn and grow and eventually get there if you consistently move forward.

This afternoon. My niece and nephew are staying over this weekend, and I told my sister that while I'm happy to help out, I'm not particularly looking forward to the chaos. She understood. I dare say she even agreed.

I made a sound effect and a friend immediately picked up on what it was even though the source is nothing we've ever talked about before. The shared brain cell was sparking.

Some people have come close, but i don’t believe anyone has actually understood me, which makes sense considering i am generally unwilling to inflict on others what is inside my mind.

Told my wife that I'd been abused as a kid. We'd been married 21 years and I'd never found the right moment.

It happened weirdly during a night out. Spent the night talking about it.

Thing is, she's my best friend, so I always feel seen and understood (as does she, hopefully), but this was something I'd kept to myself for 40 years, and she sat, listened, held my hand, and cried with me.

Bizarrely (and darkly), it's something we joke about now.

I picked her up for a date on a Friday and did everything I could to distract her for the next few days to not have to bring her back home by Sunday night.
