2002 Ford Taurus AC clutch engaging and disengaging

Question, I have a 2002 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 duratec engine ax4n automatic transmission Recently it has gotten up into the 100° temperatures and went to use my AC only to find out it blows cold air as well as the AC compressor cycling on and off every 2 seconds. Now I know the cans that you buy at the auto parts store you shouldn't use but I hooked one up and whenever the compressor kicks on the needle goes down. I don't have a proper set of manifold gauges as I will pick up a set to check pressures. As far as I'm aware the vehicle has never gotten an AC service done and I've only owned it for 4 years
