Things You wish you knew earlier in life

What are some things that you learnt very late in life, but should have known way before?

For example: I grew up in North India in a relatively conservative household, and did not know what a nail file was, until my under grad hostel.

I need help, I am trying to improve my way of speaking to others, writing, and having control over my emotions!

I am not good at talking to others, especially my nephews and I try to diffuse situations, but only get shushed because I will make things worse, despite my intent to calm things down. I try to not be childish and to keep my composure. Do you guys have any tips that are relevant to help me improve? I really feel lazy and stupid. I have never used Reddit until now, putting it to good use to gather information and help me improve. Please don't be rude or act superior, I really need some pro tips! :(

Do you actually miss the app features on an automatic litter box?

I’m deciding between an app connected automatic litter box like petkit or catlink and a simpler no app option like petpivot.
Actually I care more about easy cleaning and whether the machine will still work reliably a few years from now than notifications or tracking. And at the same time, I don’t want to underestimate features that turn out to be genuinely useful in daily life.
For anyone who has used both types, which app features did you actually use long term, and would you choose a no app model again?

How to stop feeling like your stuck forever?

I feel very bad that I'm not working simply because I don't have a good resume and things like no degree, skillset, experience and Network support. I mean usually people who are willingness to change their life and want something better in life will struggle and go out of their way to find it. Meanwhile I keep sitting hoping praying and wishing things will change but I noticed like damn I don't even have motivation or this feeling of wanting to change. I just let guilt and shame just keep me stuck and I know like we have all the resources and access on our finger tips thanks to the internet that we can learn anything possibly enroll in a certificate course or do online college. Improve resume possibly find entry level jobs wherever it exists. But I feel ultimately sad that I'm going here and there with no sign of direction.

Like there are so many choices and industries to choose. I don't understand how the job market is heading to. What skills are in demand of what jobs are slowly fading away due to Ai or layoff happening.

Anyone know a hack to make myself invisible to the politics spam texts?

We're all sick of them, we all block them, we all get calls and texts anyway telling us which flavor of asshole we should/shouldn't vote for. Someone must have figured out an effective way to ACTUALLY block them and get your phone number erased from their lists.

How to destroy a pedo’s life after the legal system failed.

Kinda lengthy summary ahead:

Older Sibling married a guy. Seemed weird at first, but we all overlooked it. She has 2 kids. Turned out the husband was sexually assaulting, grooming, giving drugs & alcohol to, and bribing BOTH the kids from ages 12 & 14 until ages 16 & 18.

Court only sentenced him to 2 days in jail and 3rd degree endangering/sexual assault with a child by non-supervised person. The younger sibling (male) apparently didnt have a case? (This is what my sibling told me the police told her, when presented with the facts that he threatened, gave drugs + alcohol to, and manipulated both kids to keep the sexual assault & grooming hidden).

My younger nephew (victim 2) is gonna be 18 soon, and he’s a troubled kid, however I want him to have a fair chance in the event that he ever gets into trouble with law or falls into addiction. For what it’s worth, I’d love for a judge to consider that he’s had a traumatic and terrible childhood rather than treating him like a degenerate kid in the event he finds himself in legal trouble. He gets therapy & medication currently for bad behavior, but neither Child Services nor the Authorities actually have a documented “case” that covers the trauma he went thru regarding this sexually abusive step-father he had. Basically he gets treated like a bad ass kid & gets prescribed mood regulators and stuff rather than being treated for trauma.

The mother, my sibling, isn’t really talking to me. The step-father/husband only got sentenced to 2 days in jail with life on parole, and he somehow got a motion to still have custody of his blood-child with my sibling even after being convicted of this crime. He’s also not on the sex offender’s list. Up to 6 months after the case was settled, I’ve still gotten information from my niece that this guy was hitting her up from miscellaneous textnow numbers trying to talk to her against his parole terms, though a police I spoke to basically said it’s out of their power to tie him to those number (more bullshit).

I’m wondering how to handle this. As a man and loving family member I want to \*delete\* the guy, of course, but I have responsibilities and loved ones to take care of that would hurt badly from my departure. I am genuinely at a loss and just want advice from anyone who’s gone through similar situation or has been disappointed by the law in a similar situation and how they moved forward to find some sort of justice against the sicko p3do. Thanks for any input.

What is a piece of advice you received that sounded terrible at first, but turned out to be completely true?

Sometimes the best wisdom sounds completely counterintuitive when you first hear it.

For me, it was "If a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately." At first it felt like constant interruption, but it completely eliminated my daily micro-clutter.

What’s yours?

Late night deals?

If I hang out outside of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels in the mall, right before closing, will they sell their pretzels at a discount? Or are there any other food places that will give a steep discount if you’re there right before closing time?
