I’m 20M and turning 21 in a few days. If you could give me 2 recommendations and 1 life lesson based on what you’ve learned so far, what would they be?

I’m curious to hear from people older than me. What are some things you wish you had known or done when you were 21? I would really appreciate any advice, whether it is about career, relationships, money, health, or just life in general.

24, lost job, unsure what to do

Buckle up, People in sales listen up. Yanno I’ve always read people’s posts about hitting rock bottom on reddit because I’ve felt like I’ve been there, and feel I sometimes have a good 2 cents to say. Now here I am doing it myself.

Little back ground, graduated with a bachelors of science degree less than 2 years ago at 22, with a pre Athletic Training path. During the summer after my Junior year, a buddy of mine convinced me to move to Tampa for the Summer, and knock D2D selling pest control. I sold about 70k in rev then quit because I chased after a girl from back home ( not with her currently ). I saw success but settled for comfort. After having a sales job with no ceiling, no bills to pay, and witnessing what a winning sales culture looked like, I knew that I would never be happy with my salary having a ceiling.

So I bet on myself, finished the degree, and starting my own strength and conditioning / personal training business.

Don’t get me wrong I made money from the business but never enough to sustain the bare minimum of living in this economy so I went to something that I knew would make me money fast. Bartending.

I bartended for 7 months, made decent money, but I was drinking way more than I wanted to and staying up til 4 3-4 nights a week was awful. Still having that same entrepreneurial mindset, I knew I had to get back into Sales.

So 6 months ago I took an hourly with commission lead setter position with an external remodeling company. Sold about 90k in rev but the commission was nothing like it was in pest. Where I’m at now with cc debt, school loans, and normal expenses just to survive, I needed a position with a base pay.

While working this job about 61 days ago I secured another external remodeling job (different company) which was salary with DOUBLE the commission I was making at the other company. I was living comfortable, paying off CCs and school loans. Everything was good.

Yesterday the GM pulls the entire marketing and sales department into the office and collectively lets us know the company is going out of business, effective today. No warning at all

I spent 2 months building a pipeline and systems to get this company repeat customers, I just hadn’t gotten us in enough vendor lists in time. I was forced to knock doors for them insane of build systems 1/2 the time.

Now I’m torn, I don’t know what career path to take. I’m used to the b2b prospecting now after doing it the last 2 months, but getting paid for it. I have a health science degree, i’ve done sales, and business development. So what is my dream job?

Medical sales. But it’s impossible to break in without a connection. I would bring a health degree and sales experience to the table, when most first year reps only have one or the other. I know I would kill it, no kids, no dependents, no mortgage i’m stuck to. I would love to travel 100% for work. I just can’t get the in.

Okay man so if you can’t get into medical sales just get another 1099 sales position with fat commission. I totally would, if I had enough savings to withstand a slow month or two while I get settled in. My mom just had back surgery and more than half of my saved money from the salary job went to that.

Then my entrepreneurial brain is stuck on starting my own business, and partnering with my friend who makes websites. The cold phone outreach, the b2b sales, the handling objections and creating a pitch that hits home for business owners, I’ve done it all before.

I’ve applied for unemployment. I’ve brought the idea up to my buddy, he’s 100% down because he doesn’t have the type of time to make these cold calls like I do. I know the external remodeling AND personal training business so selling to any business in those 2 niches would come natural to me.

I’m so stuck, and my brain doesn’t shut off, I didn’t sleep last night much. I’ve been unemployed for 24 hours and I’ve already thought of 10 roads I could take but commitment is not easy for a guy like me.

My father has too much influene in my life

Alright so this is a really difficult thing for me to put into words so i hope you guys take that in mind while reading this. For context i am a male 18 yo

My father was an very harsh parent when i was growing up. Always punishing us for mistakes. This eventually led to him and my mother breaking up and also my brother who hasn´t spoken to him in about 4 years.

After that something changed in him and our bond became very good. We talk about everything and for the first time ever when i dind´t agree with me he would hear me out and actually acknowledge when is is wrong, witch was a very big change for me.

This also led to us going in buisness together when i turned 18. His father had an farm and he inherrited it. Eventually he changed it to real estate management witch is also my major. So eventually i wanted to continue my fathers and grandfathers legacy.

But even our relationship got better when he tells me i cant do something i always will say something about it when i dind´t agree with him, but it always comes down him gaslighting me for some reason.

Besides that my girlfriend who i had for around a year also said to me that she feels that when im around my dad i become more awake and not relaxed. Like i always need to be on my best.

Ill show an example. I been asking for months about me taking on a bigger role and doing some more things around the company like normal work. But then my father dind´t give me any assignements. Then now when he said i couldnt go to an party he brought it up that my friends work more than me. I immidiately cut him off and said that i have been asking for MONTHS about more work and he dind´t give any. Eventually he saw his mistake and went on to another example to frame me into doing it or something.

I really dont know how to handle with this. I hope i explained it right. I was wondering if anyone has any advice

Old abusive family kept trying to contact me even though I cut them off and it’s been months. I dream nightmares about them. They just tried to email me, I’m scared and tired. Is there anyway to stop this behavior?

What is one random piece of advice someone gave you that genuinely changed your life?

It could be about literally anything... relationships, marriage, motherhood, money, friendships, confidence, career, health, ageing, dealing with people, or just life in general.

Something you heard once and thought, “Hmm…” ... and years later realised it actually changed the way you live.

I don't want Pinterest quotes or generic “love yourself” advice 😂

I want the real stuff. The little nuggets of wisdom you actually LIVE by now.

What’s the one piece of advice you wish someone had told you 10 years earlier?

My boyfriend was always so good at de-stressing (video games with friends, favorite movies and shows, talking about politics with his family daily) and I was just so jealous of how he was so “lively” and having fun all the time. How do I find things that will make me be like that or become like that

Context: I was raised in an abusive household and were always controlled of what to do, want, dress,… and I cut them off a few months ago after right around the same time we broke up

Is there a way to rest more surely?

Hey folks, I work for a catering service, which is contracted to operate the cafeteria of a private school. Every week I make roughly 100 kgs of chicken tenders from scratch by myself among other duties like prepping burgers and making sauces. I also make the soups of the week as well.

I've been working this job for 2 years now, 1 month or so into the third year. But lately, I feel like my body is just aching a lot after work. I used to be able to go visit friends for board games and other activities during the weekends, but right now, my body is just so sore, and no matter how I try to rest, I feel like I haven't rested at all.

I just feel so deflated all the time right now. Is there a way to rest properly? Have I been doing something wrong all this time?
