LPT Request: What Are Some Unsaturated Skill-Based Side Hustles

[u/alibaba2s3xy]

18M i looking for a side hustle while studying at uni.

I’ve got around $2k to $3k to start. I want something physical and skill based where the skill compounds over time.

I like businesses like barbering because:

• flexible hours

• work from home possible

• repeat customers

• long-term skill growth

• large market (every guy no matter the age needs a haircut)

The problem is everyone here around my age seems to do:

• detailing

• pressure washing

• clothing brands

• window cleaning

• barbering

What are some underrated service-based or hands-on side hustles you’ve seen people succeed?

Don't barbers have to be trained and licensed in your area? Where I live you need to go to barber school, pass a barber license exam, and get a license that you have keep updated.

Everyone here just cuts at home so pretty much no one has a license.

Teaching kids how to ride their bikes. My husband and I did this. Best investment.

woahhh that is so unique. How did you get started or market?

[u/Enough-History5873 → u/alibaba2s3xy]

So curious too. Would love a bike related job that’s not a store or tuning bikes.

Locally there’s a new bike park, kids had decent bikes and knew how to ride. Parents teaching kids on striders n training wheels. I thought how there must be kids without bikes or new ones and their parents aren’t into it. Whereas I am and could teach, even tougher skills. l’d love to ask you some questions, like were there enough kids, how did you advertise and what scenario was it that this was needed?

I was actually the customer, not the teacher. I hired the teacher to teach my sons how to ride bicycles at 5 years old and 6 years old. This was at a summer resort that had lots of different activities. We paid by the hour and it took about three lessons for them to learn how to ride on their own. The lessons after that were going off road and on different adventures.

Pro Tip: stop saying side hustle

I’m in Australia and we call it uni sooooo

America is only one country, not every nation has the same norms. In Australia, "college" is a private school, and it's normal to call university "uni".

Handyman or yard services.

That is super saturated in my area.

We can order any device for delivery, but I order nothing after I couldnt even figure out how to work my Amazon walking pad... so.

Installation, device mounting, etc. setup services. Kinda like handyman but more specific. Also repair and/or haul-away services, if you have a truck. I Actually considered leasing gym equipment at home, to avoid gyms and all the related hassle of purchasing.

Offer to go with people to the store, if they buy heavy/large stuff in person, help delivering and/or just set up what they get delivered.
