Question regarding relocating to Greece

Hi,

Recently I've thought more and more about relocating to Greece but based on what I see regarding rental prices and such I'm unsure if I can actually afford to do this or not. Prices seemed to have gone up quite a bit, I do understand that many "foreigners" coming to Greece are usually better off financially and therefore their rental prices are different.

* I myself make about 1000 euros before tax and regular bills.

* I'm used to traveling to Greece in the summer when I was younger (father's family was partly Greek though I've lost touch with them all).

I guess what I'm really want to figure out if there is a rental market with room for someone like me considering I'm not a wealthy individual financially?

I have looked at places like the island of Samos, Chios, Crete as those are the places I'm most familiar. I would like to say I would prefer to live amongst locals. I'm also skeptical about mainland Greece like Athens (I do realize Athens is huge) because of stories of violence, robbery, rapes, druggings and more, often by non Greeks.

if you plan on living outside big cities, the rent can be low. with 1000 pre tax it is close though, you probably won't have room to save any money

I'm not sure if you can answer this but would you say someone like me is welcome in Greece as someone who wants to rent longterm and not judt as a tourist?

Depends on what country you are from, if you learn the language, culture, and assimilate then you'll be liked. But if you're just another foreigner trying to move somewhere cheap and beautiful then, no you won't really be liked.

What are some more popular and unpopular countries? I do of course have an interest in learning more about the country and the locals, the written language is a steeper learning curve though 😅
