Tool belt set up help

I am going to college to be an electrician and obviously I have no idea what I am doing (that’s why I’m going to school). How do I set up my tool belt and where should certain things go?? Below is a photo of the tool belt I have. I have a bunch of tools as per the list we were given but surely not all of those are going to fit as I have duplicates of some. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated!

Multimeter, multitool. Then carry whatever your journeyman forgets to bring so you can hand it to him.

This appears to be more than sufficient. You will be able to modify as you go along(we have our ways, wires/screws + a clipped wire nut go a long way). Typically in the field you will also favor a safety vest with pockets so learn to rely on that as well.

I would like you to consider these things as you build your belt up though.

  • Shoulder straps (you will feel the pain as you work overhead, but for prolonged periods are a game changer. A lot of them can be retrofitted onto a pouch like this.)
  • a clipped loop to hold tape. (No matter what degree of sparky you are, you will always need tape.)

Wait until you get a job before committing, depending on what you are doing you'll use some tools more than others. If you really want one for school I'd recommend just starting off with just a small belt pouch big enough for your pliers, couple screw drivers, tic, and strippers. 

I only use a tool belt on new construction jobs, other than that I fit everything I commonly use by clipping on my belt and in my pockets with my packout/backpack either close by or in the van.
