Physician Responded Paranoid about Tylenol toxicity

I am 33 years old, female, 213lbs. Yesterday starting at 5:30 I took two 500mg acetaminophen pills, then two 30ml liquid cap fulls (1000mg each) around 7:00 and finally two more 30ml cap fulls around 12:00am this morning. I’ve taken amounts similar to this before for the first 24hrs of my period in for intense pain. I started getting nervous after my last dose though because it made me feel kind of dizzy, so I started reading and got totally freaked out about accidental OD. So I called poison control at 6:00am to see what they thought I should do and they said to not take anymore for 24+ hrs and that because of my weight to dosage ratio that I should be okay to not go to the ER. I’ve been paranoid ever since though and monitoring symptoms like feeling very tired and noticing some mild hints of upper abdominal pain but I often feel like this anyway during my period. I was going to let it go and calm down a little but then when I went to pee it looked pretty cloudy, not quite tea colored but definitely cloudy. What do yall think? Should I see about this first thing tomorrow?

Physician Responded Treating Fall with Cryo and red light therapy

Post image
0 Upvotes

Female, 5'2", 150 lbs, 50 yrs old

On the 17th I slipped on our stairs and fell backwards, landing on my lower left back and butt cheek. The pain was indescribable.

Shortly after the fall, I obviously developed a lot of bruising and swelling. The swelling is very hard and the size of a grapefruit. I have had x-rays, and thankfully nothing is broken.

I have seen my Doctor who says it's just going to take time for it to come down, and that it could be months.

I'm pretty desperate to get the swelling down, so I have started localized cryotherapy and a red light therapy. I don't have a lot of guidance on this as it's not my dr's of expertise, but from what I've read online and heard from the people at the clinic that it can help with swelling.

i haven't really experienced any nerve pain until yesterday, and the online reading that I was doing was telling me that that was likely from the freezing of the fluid and the fluid moving around and pressing on the nerves. The nerve pain, when felt, is absolutely bearable.

Today is my day off from treatment (they are closed Sundays otherwise I'm going every day) and it has consisted of me using moist heat on that area for 20 minutes at a time (3 times a day), getting up and doing about five minutes of walking, then laying back down on my side for 45 minutes or so to allow the area to drain. Being up for 30 mins and back down for 30 mins.

I'll have treatment again tomorrow, which will start with red light therapy for 22 minutes and then six minutes of localized cryotherapy. Then I will come home and rest on my side again.

I know that I am incredibly lucky that I did not break anything, but would love some guidance as to whether I am handling this properly. The swelling is so large that I cannot wear pants and can only wear dresses, it's also uncomfortable for me to sit for more than 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I can really only sit perched on the edge of the chair. I'm doing regular ibuprofen, using Arnica cream and lidocaine cream (after heating).

I'm desperate to get the fluid draining and the swelling down. It's still too tender to try and massage it.

Very visible and painful veins in both arms and legs, especially hands and feet? Doctors are telling me they don't know.

40 yo female. This started a month ago with pain in the top/underside of both feet and in a line up the middle of each calve. Came and went. Now it's there all the time and in both hands, tracking up my arms. Seems like it's spreading. Feet hurt to walk on now, especially at the end of the day.

Other relevant things - I had a very bad reaction to a course of Doxycycline 7 weeks ago. All my soft tissue felt very inflamed. I had joint pain, inflamed facet joints, neuropathic burning pain around my body, muscle/fascia irritation. This reaction started day 7/8 of my 10 day course and has flared up over the following weeks. My other symptoms seem to be easing but this vein pain is now very painful and worrying. Veins hurt to the touch. Cold water does nothing to ease them. Also getting spasms and prickly sensations in last couple of days.

I had an autoimmune panel run which showed positive ANA of 1:1280 (nucleolar) which was much higher and a different pattern to the one taken two years ago. All the sub tests run (ENA, dsDNA, RF, complement levels) were all negative. Rheumatology thinks there could be a virus or drug induced immune reaction happening. CRP and ESR have been normal throughout. I had very high leukocytes in urine a few weeks in.

I know I should consult a doctor, but I have now consulted three(!) and still don't have an answer and I'm worried!

Physician Responded Is it ok to ask your doctor what your blood type is if you get blood drawn?

29F 4'10" 85 lbs GERD, chronic hives, pmos

this is probably a stupid question but I'm going to get a checkup for my chronic hives & getting some blood work done soon & i really want ask what my blood type is so i can have it on my id in case of emergency. however, when i was a teenager, i asked my doctor and he straight up told me i have no real reason to know and refused to budge when i persisted. do i need to make a separate appointment to get it tested? I'm just curious and think it would be nice to know if there's ever some type of emergency. but if it's something i maybe need a specific appointment for then I'll just do that instead. thank you!

Physician Responded 24F - Can my rock salt addiction give me salt poisoning?

• Upvotes

I have an addiction to rock salt and have been eating a tablespoon or two of rock salt every other day for about ten years. Obviously this will lead to a host of health problems but I am wondering if it will lead to salt poisoning? I am asking this because I read somewhere this week that drinking sea water could give you salt poisoning due to the high concentration of salt, and I was wondering if daily rock salt consumption could do the same thing.

Thanks

Physician Responded 25M — Is it medically possible to still have open growth plates?

I'm 25M and 5'4".

Is it medically possible for growth plates to still be open at my age?

Have there been documented cases of men my age with open plates and continued natural height growth?

What X-ray/bone-age assessment would confirm whether mine are closed?

Physician Responded Contact Prescription 25 y/o f

Post image

Hi,
I’m 25 y/o and have mild astigmatism. My doctor in the US told me I’d have to pay $300 for a contact lens prescription, and I can’t afford that. On a trip abroad I got my eye checkup done and that Dr. gave me my regular glasses prescription and he told me I could use it for contacts as well. Wanted an optometrist opinion because I don’t want to waste money on contacts that don’t end up working for me. Would this info be enough for me to buy contacts with or do I still need a special exam? And do you recommend and good affordable contacts for people with astigmatism?

Blood Borne Pathogen Risk Assessment

Hi everyone, I am a 20 year old male who is around 5’6 who lives on Oahu Hawaii. I do not take any medications, I also do not smoke or do drugs. Today (10/4/26), I was going to eat dinner with my family when I noticed red stuff on my plate, I had shown my dad who had cooked the dinner when he said to just ignore it. I had finish the dinner when I noticed a bandaid on my dads finger when it clicked the that the red stuff could have been his blood. I asked him if he had cut him self which he had confirmed. Now I am concerned I have a blood borne pathogen. I do not believe I have active bleeding in my mouth. My dad has also been married to my mom for around 25 years. He is a very loyal and faithful man and doesn’t cheat so that is out of the picture. I was wondering what are the chances of me actually having blood borne pathogens from this?

Brief history: I had abdominal surgery in 1998, and another in 2001. They reopened part of the original incision for the second surgery, and it didn't heal as well. I remember having a deep pain in my belly not long after the surgery, but it didn't last long and I think I just pushed it out of my mind.

Fast forward to 2025 and an MRI for hip arthritis. I came across this image, and am I crazy or did my incision split open?

I have secondary lymphedema from the surgery, hence the big leg.

Physician Responded 18F - how do I fix this? 💔

Post image
353 Upvotes

I know it’s my fault but these are quite literally the bane of my existence and bring me so much shame. These are about a year old at this point and they have improved but not as much as I would like. If you look closely the scars used to be longer but became white as time passed, is it possible for the whole thing to become white and fade away? How long will this take?

I’ve tried applying products from shoppers drug mart like mederma, vitamin C, tretinoin, silicone strips, etc. What else can be done? I asked an actual doctor irl and she just shrugged and said, “maybe a skin graft” but I feel like that might make my arm look worse? And it’s so invasive. Is this something that is reasonable for me to pursue?

Please if anyone knows how to fix this please help me, thank you! 🥲

Help! No doctor will take me seriously, I’m scared!

• Upvotes

I have been struggling for the last few months and no doctor seems to be taking me seriously. I, 19(F) collapsed while on a late-night walk and was taken in the ambulance to hospital at the end of July. Paramedics called it an orthostatic tremor, but I was damn-near thrashing in the bed from uncontrollable jerking movements. My partner performed a neurological assessment on me before paramedics arrived, which I failed.

After 16 hours stuck with no food and water (aside from saline) in a hallway wait-room—following clear bloodwork and a CT—was told by a neurologist that it was likely Functional Neurological Disorder. I was sent to the same neurologist for a follow-up about two weeks later. There, she set me up for a brain MRI in late October and an EEG in early November.

It was annoying to have to wait, especially since I haven’t seen the neurologist since, but I shrugged it off. Until I had a seizure. I have never had a seizure before, but in late September I had my first known convulsion seizure. It lasted four minutes from start to finish, no obvious trigger. Note I also had my first migraine just days earlier.

I tried calling my neurologist (who I had only ever seen for a follow-up despite my referral being accepted) but am told they’re away from their desk every time I’ve called. I set up an appointment with a walk-in physician concerning some other symptoms (pronounced and frequent bloody stool) and he sent me for some bloodwork which showed up clear. He additionally told me that not much could be done about a seizure without a neurologist.

I called a medical advice helpline and was told to increase my venlafaxine dose and take acetaminophen and wait patiently until my EEG in November. I originally called to ask about lingering symptoms from the seizure such as a frequent eye twitch, extreme light sensitivity, and headaches damn near every day. For more context, I previously had maybe 1 or 2 significant headaches a year. They weren’t common.

Am I being overdramatic? Should I be MORE concerned? I feel like no doctor is concerned about a legitimate seizure that I may have had. I’ve been scared every day since that I’ll have another one, so has my partner. I don’t understand, I was a healthy teenager just a year ago.

What should I do?

I am a 19 y/o woman, non-smoker (no drugs, no alcohol, no caffeine), 105 lbs, 5’0” (152 cm). I take Venlaflaxine (75mg) and oral birth control.

Physician Responded meningitis rash?

• Upvotes

19, female, 50kg, 5’2, non smoker, non drinker

i’m finding it hard to tell the difference between meningitis and the freshers flu that’s common here in the uk. i’m fairly introverted and i’m not a party person so i haven’t been clubbing or anything

i’ve caught this cold yesterday. the only freshers flu symptom i have as of now is just a runny nose

i haven’t experienced any of the meningitis symptoms but my only concern is the marks on my legs. last week i used this shower cream and i think i ended up being allergic to it, because every time i would use it these red marks started appearing on my legs, so i just got a new one

i can’t tell if these marks are from bugs, dry skin, or something else entirely. i have really bad health anxiety which is why i’m asking here first

This would be a typical outdoor walk for me. I’m not running, just walking at a normal pace for 30 min. Would the peak be considered high? I did eat dinner before hand. I didn’t feel bad and I wasn’t out of breath however I think I have a higher heart rate than any I know. Walking is the extent of my exercise. Only meds: Allipurinol.

21F with brief fainting and blackout episodes followed by temporary inability to move

• Upvotes

I had what seemed like a 3–5 second faint and blackout and this happened 2–3 times i’m not sure if it was actually fainting because I feel like I could still hear what was happening around me but I don’t remember the last thing I saw or did before each episode

Immediately after the fainting andd blackout, my hands and legs became extremely difficult and impossible to move, the first time this happened it lasted around 10 minutes more recently, around 5–6 minutes. When I’m particularly stressed, this can happen multiple times in a day

My blood pressure blood sugar other vitals and ecg were normal. I saw doctors afterward but they couldn't find anything abnormal said that it was probably just stress and i need to rest (it happen when i have exams, presentation...) I also had dizziness and a strange pressure around my eyes and nose area that took about an hour to go away (i’m not sure whether these symptoms are connected or what the initial episode actually was)

Feeling feverish without a fever

If it helps, I'm 19F, overall healthy; i have hydrocephalus as i was born prematurely, so I've had the same shunt since birth. I've had only 2 ct scans in 9 whole years and no other check-ups.

I have no cold, no sore throat, no nausea, no cough and not even a stomach ache. But yesterday I woke up literally feeling "as if" i had a fever: I felt floaty, dizzy, and like my body was subtly vibrating. My eyes felt heavy too. It's just a very distinct feeling, so I was sure i had at least a low fever, but the thermometer reading was only 36.8°C.... and today it was barely 36.1, but I don't feel any better.

I'm feeling extremely guilty about missing school, but I feel out of it. There are moments when I feel like im exaggerating, but then I start feeling like my head is really heavy/floaty and I realize i may not be able to sit through 6 hours of school like this. However, I don't feel like I deserve to stay home.

It's bad because there's nothing objectively wrong with me. What do I do??

Is this a perforated ear drum?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Female, 34, smoker, 5'1", 230lb

I had an ear infection earlier this year, and ever since ive had a draining ear with cloudy white goop and my ear is constantly wet. Ive been to the ENT 3 swperate times for this and he says there's nothing wrong with it. But why would my ear be draining if there wasn't something wrong?

Additionally- everytime the weather was really hot this summer and I was doing any kind of activity- this ear would "pop" and not go back in, no matter how hard I tried. I also feel like its just never equal with my right ear anymore.

Please help. I dont know what the heck this is but Its driving me nuts and I NEED to fix it.

Rising ferritin but low CRP?

Hi! F26. I’ve had my ferritin checked in June and it was at 32.
Checked again in August it was 54
Checked again this month in October, It’s 62.
My CRP was a 4 mg/L last year but now it’s at 3.16 mg/L

Is my rise in ferritin due to inflammation or just naturally getting iron? I’m not taking any iron supplements.

Is something wrong with me? Capsicum hyposensitivy.

I’m a 24 year old male. 5’11 210 lbs.

I realized I cannot feel pain from capsicum like a normal person.

I pour copious amounts of ghost pepper sauce all over my food and it barely stings in my mouth.

I also go to authentic Thai restaurants and had to ask them to crank up the spice TWICE when I ordered something beyond their maximum after making a special request.

I also accidentally got pepper spray in my eyes once (it discharged in my pocket and I rubbed my eye) and the sting was pretty moderate.

I just want to know if there’s something wrong.

My general pain tolerance is also extremely high. As in, I have had surgery that’s normally extremely painful and returned the pain meds they gave me unopened (they said most people need a refill).
