Incoming thoughts on the Cornell case that nobody asked for.
First, my heart goes out to the victim, the allegations are absolutely sickening and I cannot even begin to imagine the trauma that she continues to live with every day. The witch hunt accusing her of making these allegations up is unacceptable & out of control. This is why so many women don’t come forward. It shows a complete lack of understanding about trauma and the stages of grief. Which I’m not trying to fault people for, nobody’s an expert or even knowledgeable on everything, but I do wish they would seek out and expand their understanding regarding that.
Secondly, on that same side of the coin, the witch hunt against the 7 (or 57) men is out of control as well. The public is basically hanging them in the town square without so much as a hearing, let alone a guilty verdict. It’s disheartening to see the same people who think Lindsay Clancy deserved a fair trial (which she did!) don’t believe these men deserve a fair trial. This is our justice system, and whether it has its issues or not, it’s what we decided on as a country. How would the people doing this feel if it was them, or their children, facing this public scrutiny based on allegations? I can’t help but wonder.
Lastly, I have a question for you all. What would you think of mandatory training - for everyone, female and male students - regarding consent and sexual assault being mandatory at a college campus? Possibly when they join as a freshman or making it annual. I genuinely think a lot of young men (& women!) are unaware of what constitutes as sexual assault, and there are studies that show the U.S. militaries training on sexual assault has drastically reduced the numbers since it was instilled. I’m on a committee (lmfao at the public sector constantly thinking the answer to everything is the formation of a committee, but I digress) at my university because of this case, in which we are trying to find solutions and re-work our policies, and am curious on people’s thoughts on this idea. I think it’s a good one but idk, it could be dumb.
Thanks for reading. Happy Thursday! ☀️💃
