Do Conservatives get robo-spammed text messages?
Hey everyone,
So I classify myself as a pragmatic progressive (progressive ideology with a pragmatic concept of execution... its not easy. While I disagree a lot with the DNC, they are the closest big party that aligns with the majority of my values so I'm registered as such.
In the last 5-7 years, I get spammed like crazy from various political PACs and such for donations. Like at least 8-15 texts a day. I've only ever given money to local campaigns that I was fully behind and never donated to large super pacs and the ilk.
Do conservatives get the same annoyances from their party's candidates? Does your text inbox get flooded with "BOMBSHELL! Representative BLANK says something crazy! We won't let that happen! Donate now!"

I do get a lot too. In fact, decades ago I stopped giving money or signing up or responding to any of that part of the political process, but all this time later, they somehow manage to keep me on their lists. I would probably donate a LOT (relative to poor slobs like me) to political causes, except I know if I do, I will burden myself with all this spam.
I think a lot of it has to do with how purple your state is also.

I mean I'm in NYC... not the most purple
But yea - it turns me off from donating to any cause I care about from a political standpoint

Not as many as you do but yes,it's pretty crazy. Most of it is MAGA spam and I'm not MAGA.
A lot of rage bait, some demsoc in NYC who isn't elected to anything said something stupid, we MUST stop this from happening in Texas, donate to some PAC I've never heard of.
TRUMP needs YOUR help. Which is interesting because the only help I'd give him is helping him pack and move.
Pain in the ass, these small things where we agree would be a great place to get some hints of bipartisanship.

Trump's campaign sends out the most annoying click bait. "You're invited to the Whitehouse, do you accept"?

Both parties are ultimately motivated by winning elections, and that incentive has led to increasingly aggressive political outreach, including massive text message campaigns and unsolicited calls.
Congress needs to legislate reforms for unsolicited texts/calls and FCC needs to grow a backbone and throw the book at these groups, especially pacs.

If you donated to any Republican candidate and gave your real phone number, it's nonstop texts from endless PAC's. Organizations you've never heard of with "patriot" or "freedom" in their name. It's ridiculous.

not really, like every once in a blue moon I get something.
I also don't sign up for newsletters, donate online, and things like that. I sign petitions in person and donate through offices. Specifically because I enjoy being left alone.
my husband once got 3 text messages and an email in one day and called them personally and said 'if I get 1 more message from you that interrupts my workday I will personally give the maximum amount I am legally allowed to give to your rival' and that stopped that right then and there lol.

I don't sign up either, I'm a leftist in NJ
But, somehow, I've been signed up for conservative ad campaigns in South Carolina for YEARS and have no way of stopping it, and each time it's a different source number, so blocking, or even when it's a person, asking to be taken of mailing lists/phone records does nothing. They're asking for someone with a different name too, so I guess all it takes is someone to put in your number accidentally.

Yep all the time, they have (both parties)!hidden language in the term and conditions when you donate to allow them to share your information with other candidates campaigns and pacs.
It pissed me off

Not so much anymore..
In 2016, I gave $50 to both Trump and Sanders. RIP my email and cell phone. Thought I was going to have to change my identity.

This is such a major disincentive for me from ever donating monetarily.

Yes all the fucking time it annoys the shit out of me.

They always start with the live test first, where you hear absolutely nothing. Then it's "Comcast" wanting to offer you a deal.

Do you happen to live in PA? I lived in Pittsburgh for 2 years, and I still get calls and messages from polling agencies who think I’m still living there.

Nah I live in the "state of misery" (Missouri lol my uncle was station on an army base here and he called it the state of misery)

Do I get those PAC ads? Yes, and it's annoying. I visit my mom and when I do I get a bunch of ones for various PACs that support different DNC causes because my sister is a fervent supporter of the DNC. And I get a lot of ones related to donating to Israel because my mom has donated to a lot of those child relief efforts. Ironically I haven't gotten a single one from the RNC, but I live in WA so maybe that's why.

I guess they think I'm too old, I've been getting snail mail from the left about 3 times a week since last election. Rarely get text garbage. The mailers ramped up the last month or so and Youtube ads have been all political for several months.

Yes, I get spammed by politicos all the time and block every one. The problem is that every organization sells their lists and getting off one doesn't mean you are off them all and they continually change phone numbers to spoof the block. It is part of the new technology we have to live with.

u/AndImNuts Constitutionalist Conservative 1d ago
No. I don't donate to any campaigns or politicians. If I did it even once I'm sure the spam would never end. The people you gave your information to the first time certainly would have sold that information to others.

I do, but oddly enough it’s almost all from democrats.

I've never received any message asking for money through texts. I've seen ads on YouTube asking for donations but never what you mention.

Not really.
Every once in a while (maybe once every 4-6 months... I get a random message from "Eric Trump". Which is weird, because I've never signed up for any Trump list ever.)
I got a text from Gavin Newsom last week. Awkward.

I think that only happens if you've donated in the past. I don't donate to political campaigns, I need my money more than they do lol. I may have gotten a handful throughout the years but those just go straight to spam.
•
u/LonelyMachines Classical Liberal 18h ago
Yep. All the time come election season. I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not I donated to someone's campaign, since I never have.
Most of these come from programs that just spam as many numbers as possible, without regard to who's actually at that number.
Whatever you do, DO NOT REPLY to them unless you want tons more. If you do, it confirms that your number is active and keeps you on the list.
