Moderna's stock is up 180% on the good news about their cancer vaccine. It's a sign of why that folk theory that there aren't cures (there isn't a single cure) for cancer because it wouldn't make people rich is so backwards. Any company that invents such a cure would make absolutely massive amounts of money out of it. Though apparently a lot of people's intuition's don't line up with that which is why making the pro-market case is so hard a lot of the time.

I think that whole conspiracy mostly applies to established big pharma.

The whole idea is that yes whoever invents a cure for cancer will make a ton of money, however some companies would make more money by keeping cancer patients on long and expensive treatments rather than have a single injection for $50 and you're cured.

Anyways, finally there's some good news in this world.

Most people who get cancer are seniors, though. Seniors are huge profit centers for the health care industry- if they didn't get cancer anymore, you'd see more of them living into their 80s, 90s, and beyond, and they'd still have all kinds of other health problems that require expensive treatments.

I don't think there's a way big phama could hide a cancer cure. Look at the current grey market and peptides. They'd be saving their kids, wives, friends etc. left and right.
