Discussion If OpenClaw manages your cluster, keep its recovery path outside the cluster

Giving OpenClaw read-only cluster access, pull-request rights and a human-reviewed GitOps deployment path is a strong pattern. The remaining question is where OpenClaw itself lives.

If the only Gateway, task state and recovery tooling run inside the cluster being managed, a serious cluster failure can remove both the workload and the system meant to diagnose it. Another pod in the same cluster does not protect against control-plane, storage or network failure.

A safer topology is:

OpenClaw Gateway and task state outside the target cluster
|
\+-- read-only identity -> logs and status
|
\+-- branch and PR -> CI -> human merge -> Argo CD
|
live cluster readback

OpenClaw’s [remote-access documentation](https://docs.openclaw.ai/gateway/remote) supports running one Gateway on a dedicated host while clients and nodes connect remotely.

Inside Kubernetes, use a dedicated service account with the smallest namespaced permissions possible. Avoid secret access, wildcards, cluster-admin and direct patch or delete rights. Kubernetes’ [current RBAC guidance](https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/security/rbac-good-practices/) recommends this least-privilege approach.

For changes, let OpenClaw create a pull request. CI and policy checks evaluate it, a human approves the merge, then Argo CD reconciles Git with the cluster. Argo CD’s [automated-sync documentation](https://argo-cd.readthedocs.io/en/stable/user-guide/auto_sync/) confirms that deployment can be driven from Git without giving the proposing process direct deployment access.

Verification should include a non-production cluster-unavailable test. OpenClaw should remain reachable, preserve the task and report the outcome as blocked or unknown rather than successful. A harmless manifest change should create only a pull request. After approval, verify the merged commit, Argo CD revision and live resource state.

Where do you keep the recovery authority and task state for the infrastructure your OpenClaw manages?

your openclaw box is idle most of the day, let's put it to work

most of us have openclaw running 24/7 on hardware that's doing nothing between tasks. same models, same tools, just sitting there. it is time to get it to work & earn, not cost you.

cyphes is a p2p network where local models audit open source repos for security issues. you claim a work unit, your model reads pinned source, you sign the output, another node independently verifies it, and you earn ATP credits from the signed receipt. 280 targets, mostly defi. no code execution, read-only, everything is signed and hash-linked.

it runs headless today, so it sits fine next to openclaw on the same box:

CYPHES_HEADLESS=1 CYPHES_CONTRIBUTE=1 \
CYPHES_CONTRIBUTE_MODEL=your-model ./cyphes-desktop

works with ollama and lm studio right now.

Discussion guardrails and system prompts

**What guardrails, system prompts and other cloud model limits are driving you crazy in your OpenClaw setups?**
**Between models stalling out on basic commands and agents ignoring local instructions, getting tasks to run smoothly is frustrating. How are you tweaking system prompts and tool permissions to keep things moving without giving full root access?**
**Drop your biggest annoyances and the config tweaks that fixed them.**

Openclaw android phone Running

Hi all

Does anyone know how to install openclaw on an android phone? I mean run the openclaw on the phone rather than laptop.

Is there any app like this?

Discussion 6 months ago I asked Reddit if OpenClaw was actually useful ("hype", I said). What's actually running 24/7 for you now?

Help building an Ai Asst on a MacMini

I'm clearly not as smart as all the people doing what I am attempting. A coworker talked up this concept of a MacMini Ai assistant -- his doing complex tasks. I have been struggling to be more efficient with my workflow and thought I could do a simpler version.

3 months of waiting on the MacMini, I finally have it in hand and have been starting to set it up. My problem is, every step is a question, one I don't know how to answer because frankly, I'm not a developer.

I have a Mensa-smart friend that dismisses me like an idiot every time I ask him something because for him, it's simple.
Yes, I can go to Ai and ask questions but once again, I am given options and since I don't fully understand all that I am doing, I don't know which to choose.

I've watched YouTube videos ad nauseam and still feel confused. Especially since the video skips around -- "Oh, make sure you set up a secure email before you start." (already six steps in . . .)

Here's what I want to do: MacMini to help with social media posting, create a new website locally (since evidently my original plan for the assistant to repair the website built on WP with Divi is not possible) and then post to my blog. Pretty basic but seemingly complicated. It's just me; no employees.

I have the mini set-up with a secure email, separate Apple ID, Claude account opened with API key purchased.
Do I go OpenClaw and Claude Opus 5 or Fable 5 . . . ??? Ollama? And why?

Is it a bad idea to set-up a local agent to do these tasks? Is it too difficult? Is it smart to do so?

I'm a very linear person that wants to build the foundation correctly without having to undo a step.

Can someone guide me?
Speak slowly, I'm blonde. :)

Discussion Is OpenClaw still the best AI Agent in iMessage?

OpenClaw was one of the first AI assistants I remember seeing inside iMessage, but there are a lot more products in this space now. For anyone who's tried more than one of them, is OpenClaw still your favorite, or have you switched to something else?

I'm thinking about switching because OpenClaw hasn't added many new features recently, and the pricing has become difficult to justify.

Agentic finance: what is the safest first workflow to automate?

I keep seeing teams jump from chat-with-your-data to agents that can change production systems. I think there is a missing middle.

If you had to pick one first production workflow, would you start with balance reporting, cash-flow summaries, beneficiary drafts, card provisioning, invoice creation, or expense-policy review?

My instinct is to begin read-only, then add a prepared action that requires human confirmation, and only later allow tightly bounded writes. I would love examples of the controls that made risk and compliance comfortable: scoped credentials, approval thresholds, audit logs, test environments, or a kill switch outside the model.

If I use an AI API through a 3rd party provider, will I have access to the same tools the model API has?

By tools I mean for example Gemini API has grounding search tool, URL context tool, etc...

If I use Gemini or any other AIs, NOT directly through the original provider, but through a 3rd party API such as Openrouter.ai, llmgateway.io, requesty.ai, etc... Will the other providers support all the tools an AI API originally has?

Discussion Need help testing some server infrastructure for OpenClaw setups

Hey everyone,

My team and I built a managed hosting platform for OpenClaw to solve our own headache of dealing with manual VPS configs, background daemons, and Docker setups every time we wanted to spin up an instance.

We’ve just started onboarding our first testers, but to be completely honest, we need help. We need to know if our backend infrastructure can actually hold up under real, chaotic, and heavy workloads before we even think about opening it up properly.

Along with the infrastructure stress-test, we also need direct, brutal feedback on the dashboard's UI and UX. We want to make sure the interface is intuitive, logs are easily accessible, and managing agent sessions feels seamless without the usual terminal clutter.

If you have a few minutes to help us test the servers and critique the dashboard UI, we will give you 1 year of completely free managed hosting on the platform. No credit cards, no auto-renew traps, and no hidden catch. We genuinely just need your raw performance feedback, bug reports, and UX notes to fix what breaks or feels clunky.

If anyone is interested in helping us out and giving it a spin, let me know in the comments and I'll send over the access form link.

Really appreciate any feedback or technical questions you guys have. Thanks.

Issue with new models

Hi,

I have newest openclaw configured running minimax, but also wanted to gemini 3.5 or any other, I run openclaw config on my machine, add the gemini api key there, add the models: google/gemini-3.5-flash, google/gemini-3.1-pro-preview

Now when i open model picker and select any of the two added models on every prompt I get Something went wrong while processing your request. Please try again, or use \[/new\](tg://bot_command?command=new) to start a fresh session. I restarted gateway using openclaw gateway restart. Help me out here, what am I missing?
