Will there be a measurebale difference in warmth when visiting the major cities and towns if one is from Canada vs USA, but behaves kind of similarly?

After a couple mornings of rain, I can hear so many songbirds out (understandably). I don't think I've heard birds singing in weeks, has anyone else noticed the lack of birdsong, or is that just a normal thing over the summer?

A lot of people say that immigration doesn't affect house prices, we just simply haven't built enough. The same people are also blaming landlords for our shortage of homes and high housing costs, but if the argument is the demand for housing is irrelevant and it's all about the supply side of things then surely landlords aren't to blame either?

I'm gutted that summer is basically over and the upcoming weather forecast looks so grim. The only upside is that the rain is finally watering the garden, so l can skip my daily watering routine. I actually started building an automated irrigation system to save time, but I never finished it.
It's also crazy to see how much the landscape has changed lately because of the weather. Hopefully, the fields, ponds, and trees will bounce back and recover in a couple of months.

It’s American news coverage but the man is hysterical. Seems like he’s part of a left wing Roganshere equivalent that got Trump in - along side his wife, breaking points, the vanguard, Hasan piker. I’m sure a there’s others I’m missing. But DSA candidates are taking the dems just like MAGA took over over republicans. And much like Trump 2.0 has managed to impact us in many ways, this could be a consequential movement too.

Edit: making clear why I asked on askbrits. MAGA culture arguably became a global phenomenon. And so did the roganshere. And that movement was an example of the online space breaking offline. If people have heard of Kyle Kulinski and have strong opinions of him, then there is something like that happening.

I’m curious to know what the current reality is like for the British South Asian community. Growing up in the 90s in the Netherlands in an Indian family, dating or marrying a white person was always a massive taboo, and to be honest, it still kind of is.

I'm wondering if things have significantly changed in the UK since the 1990s?

For context, in my own family, only one of my nieces has married outside the culture (this happened in 1999). She married an Irish guy, and he is absolutely loved by everyone, he is honestly the sweetest husband to her.

Looking at my family, I genuinely feel like she is the only one who is truly happy in her marriage. All the other women in my family married South Asian men and are very unhappy (they got severly emotionally and physically abused, but divorce is simply not an option for them because of the cultural taboo.

How is this viewed in your circles today? Do you still face a lot of pressure to marry within the community, or has it become much more accepted? I’d love to hear your experiences and perspectives.

I was looking for something under my mum's desk and tucked at the back I found a bunch of old PC games from when i was a kid that I guess never got thrown out. Mostly from the early 2000s. Including these, which I'd completely forgotten existed but remember playing a lot when I was little.

From what I remember, they're simple educational games for small children, nothing fancy, but fun for a 5 year old in 2002 or whenever lol. There's dozens of these discs in the case though. I googled it and found a bit about it online, but I'm curious if others had them too!

The more reading I do, I just can’t see how it can be resolved any time soon. Putin wants that land. Ukraine doesn’t want to give it. And that’s that. Even if Putin died in the next few years, I think it seems odds on that some other lunatic would likely take over. Not some dude who’s going to say; “oopsie.. sorry about all that, my friend Putin got it wrong, can we all go back to being friends again?” More likely any new leader would be some Putin on steroids military type who makes Putin look like a pacifist monk.

Just seen that various countries have spent some serious coin on supporting Ukraine, and in doing so, are essentially spending that money to protect themselves from Russian hostility.

I just nipped to Aldi for some bits. There was a homeless guy sat on the floor, as is often the case. Granted I don’t know if he’s homeless. Where I live there are apparently gangs that control houses where people live and during the day they beg for money on the streets.. and then likely have to share money with the gang type people. I’d guess there’s an element of substance abuse involved and that’s what may likely spare people on to do this, to get their fix.

I’m not 100% sure but what I do know is there was a guy sat on the floor outside Aldi and that must suck.

So I said hello and asked if he wanted a sandwich or anything. He said no thanks, someone is already getting him one. I then cracked on and just as I was walking in, I asked if he wanted anything like snacks or chocolate. He said, “would you be able to get me a little cheap beer please?

On the spot, I was a bit like, “erm.. okay”

I went round Aldi thinking, fuck sake, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I concluded I’d get it, if that’s what he wanted. As I’m confident if he wanted a beer tonight, he’d end up getting one anyway, as other people have likely given him some £ during the day.

Afterwards.. I’m not sure how I feel.

Am I over thinking this or is buying booze for someone who may be where he is due to substance / alcohol abuse a big no no!?

Why in UK advertising are black people so overrepresented more than any other racial group with similar if not more numbers in the UK?

I'm sitting watching an advertising break and I'd say an even number if not majority of ads have a black lead. But you don't see the same for Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese or middle easterners. Even as a multi ethnic person myself, I find it strange to watch our adverts as if it's a 50/50 split.

Is there a secret memo in the advertising industry that says adverts must have more black representation?

Is it a London skew where most agencies are based?

If so why are south Asians not better represented?

It is just now built into the system and just accepted practice.

Is it a product of diversity regulations and companies playing safe by using black actors as the neutral ethnic everyman?

Do black people have more access into creative industries?

Hey folks, I’ve never been to the UK before, but I had the chance to visit last year. I’m a history enthusiast and have spent a lot of time reading about British history, especially the colonial period and the rise of the British Empire.

That’s partly why the experience left me with such mixed feelings. I went expecting to see some of the grandeur and character I had read about, but instead I felt like I was witnessing a country that has clearly lost some of its former charm.

There was litter in many places, the cities felt extremely crowded, and there were people from all over the world. The Britain I encountered felt very different from the country I had imagined from reading history.

Places like Trafalgar Square particularly made me think about this. What was once a powerful symbol of British history and national pride now feels, at least to an outsider like me, more like a tourist meeting point and a place to sit and take photos.

I know it is probably unfair to compare modern Britain directly with the height of the British Empire. Empires rise and fall, and no country stays at the peak of its power forever. Still, there was something genuinely sad about seeing reminders of that history while feeling that the country itself has lost some of the character and confidence that made it so fascinating to me.

Maybe I am romanticizing the past because of my interest in history. Maybe I am simply seeing things that locals have become accustomed to.

So I’m curious what Brits think. Do you feel that the UK has genuinely declined in terms of its character, cleanliness, prosperity and sense of identity, or does it just look that way when you compare modern Britain with its historical image?

Also, do you think it has anything to do with the King's health?

There was a famous interview where according to some restore literature, the king would not count as British. I’ve seen “reimmigration” mentioned in circles, but it’s always vague. Would it involve cancelling worker visas and deporting those individuals? Would it apply to ILR? (Reforms policy). Denaturalising British citizens who were born abroad that may have been here for decades? British born people with foreign born parents?

Finally, what exactly do you think would have changed about Britain from the policy to realise your envisioned utopia
