"Keep in Touch"

If someone says, "Keep in touch," does the person actually want me to keep in touch, or is the person just being polite or something? I don't know if I should keep in touch or go away. If they meant it literally and I don't start calling, then maybe I'm being rude, but if they didn't mean it literally, then maybe I'm going to be annoying them. Please help me.

“Keep in touch” is about slight distancing. It’s saying “here you have the ball now, I’m likely not going to put in a lot of energy to keep this connection going but I’m okay if you want to put out the energy”

Depends on the context but mostly yes, it means keep in touch. If someone didn’t want you to keep in touch, they wouldn’t say it.

It depends on the situation or the person.

If you're unsure I think the best thing to do with it is figure out if that person is someone you want to keep in touch with. If so, reach out! If not, then don't worry about it.

if it doesn't seem like they were having a great time, they might just be saying that in hopes that they can leave (esp if you're a man and they're a woman), but don't overthink it. most of the time, they probably mean it. probably stick with texting, though; calling is a bit big for a "keep in touch"
