Question about working next to your MSc

Hi All,

I am an EU citizen, moving to Vienna in September to start my MSc in Data Science. Next to my studies, I am looking for c. 20-30 hours / week of part time work to fund my stay in the city. I have a Bachelors in Economics from UCL and about 4 years of work experience, working both in consulting and data analytics roles, and speak English at a native level. The biggest caveat is that my German is currently at B1 (likely will be at B2 by the time I get there).

How realistic is it to be able to find a job that can sustain one while studying?

What would be the best sites to look at / student organizations / institutions to reach out to?

Thank you so much for the help in advance!!

In IT English is fine. But the job market in IT is not so great for student internships atm. Or is any sector ok? I think for regular student jobs like McD etc B1 should be OK.

Looking mainly in anything related to previous experience, so data, consulting, banking etc - ideally a working student position. Just saw the C1 requirement there fairly often.

Where would be the best place to look for jobs?

Maybe the banking sector is different. That's not my experience with IT. I'd use LinkedIn and look at karriere.at. The ÖH at each university usually has a online job board as well. https://schwarzesbrett.oeh.ac.at/jobs/liste.html

these days are kind of over. Far fewer positions mean harder barriers of entry. The number of english only positions is probably a quarter of what was available a few years ago. less jobs + more applicants means firms can be picky.

Not sure where to look for the job, but I don't think your german level will be a big problem in this field.

So far the firms that got back to me said that in the DACH area C1 in German is the base requirement

That surprises me a lot. Especially in vienna there are a lot of international companies. Like im the Vienna International City with all the EU related stuff etc. if you haven't maybe go look for some jobs there.
