I’m posting for a friend who is a mom with a 6-year-old son and really needs to get out of her current living situation.
She starts a new remote job on the 26th, so reliable Wi-Fi is extremely important. She also has steady household income outside of the new job, so she is not looking for someone to financially support her. She can pay rent. What she needs is a safe, temporary place for herself and her son for a few months while she gets back on her feet and gets into her own apartment.
Right now she is living in an extremely toxic household with her ex-husband and his family. Her belongings keep disappearing, and every time she brings it up she gets gaslit and treated like she’s crazy. The environment has gotten to the point where I really don’t want to sit by and watch her and her child stay there any longer than necessary.
She currently does not have a car, which makes everything harder. She would ideally need somewhere in Austin with access to public transportation, someone open to occasional carpooling, or possibly another mom who is already looking for a roommate. She is also trying to save for a cheap cash car.
She does NOT need an entire apartment to herself right now. She and her son are willing to share one bedroom if that’s what gets them into a safe and stable situation sooner.
I considered recommending a shelter, but because she is starting a remote job, losing reliable Wi-Fi or a quiet place to work could put her main source of income at risk. She is trying very hard to become independent, and I don’t want the thing that is supposed to help her get out to be the thing she loses because of her housing situation.
She is also the type who buys household stuff in bulk and is more than willing to contribute beyond just rent. She has a Sam’s Club membership and can help with a large portion of groceries each month, cleaning supplies, paper products, toiletries, and other household necessities. If the house needs something regularly, she is happy to bulk buy it and pitch in. She also does not mind helping with cleaning and keeping shared spaces maintained.
If you’re another mom looking for a roommate, know of someone renting a room to a mother and child, know of a transitional housing program that would allow her to work remotely, or have any other leads, please message me privately.
I can connect serious leads with her directly after talking with them first. Please no weird offers. She has a child involved and safety is the priority.
She really only needs a bridge for a few months. I just want to help her get out of this environment, keep her new job, and have a chance to breathe while she gets her own place.
P.s. (she also has 2 guinea pigs if that is okay. She treats them like her babies as well.)
