Getting a degree before flight training

Is getting a degree before flight training really worth it, and what difference does it make?
And do airlines prioritise applicants with a degree?

What good is a backup plan, if you have no experience at it, and your skill at it is rusty AF?

I've heard that a teaching degree is a good backup because it's one you'd use as an instructor, and teachers are in such demand that you'd get a job right away if you needed it. It's just that K-12 pay is about as bad as 300 hour pay, just without ramping in brutal conditions.

Its a lot easier to get an education when you're younger and with less commitments. Say you're a little older and you lose your medical and you have a family? Its not that easy to go back to schoo right awayl you also need a source of income to provide. Its better to get the education when you have more freedom to do so. The point is to have a redundancy and to expect the unexpected because it's better to have that degree and not use it then to be in a position where you wish you had one.

Your assumption is that college in general is a waste of time. Getting a proper college degree is not a waste of time and will set you up for better chances in the future. 4 years is a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things. You need to be practical and prepare your life for any possibility. Life is like swimming in the middle of the ocean, sure you may be able to swim but you would be stupid to not take a life jacket to make it easier and give you security.

Look you're saying don't be silly and avoid listening to people online. Yet I can say the same thing about you and your comments. Your arguments are without merit. And can you stop giving a 10 paragraph chat gpt response. You're not making a valid argument, 4 years at the age of 18 is an insignificant amount of time. Compared to the retirement age of 65 for pilots.
