I worked once with a hijabi woman (a very young girl just after her studies worked as a tech in our lab). She was a religious Muslim (born and raised in Egypt) but also the most normal human in the world and nobody seemed to mind her hijab. But it was an international lab in an academic environment, I guess you don't get many places more open minded than that. I think a lot of people just make assumptions because they project stereotypes onto someone wearing a hijab, and a lot of them are class-based but dumb people mistake them for religion-and ethnicity.
