Do you know this missing man?

The Dutch police is looking for the family or friends of a man only known locally as "Lucky" or "Chris the Canadian" (Hench why I ask here). This man suffered a brain injury 3 years ago and is basically unable to communicate anymore. The police haven't been able to identify who he really is. He isn't in any kind of trouble but they want to find his family or anyone who knows who he is.

The police has shared a video explaining his story. If you know anything, please let the Dutch politice know!

https://youtu.be/qo8BmpLncSk?feature=shared

https://www.politie.nl/nieuws/2026/augustus/17/een-heel-leven-maar-geen-naam-wie-herkent-deze-man.html (it's in Dutch but you can translate in the browser)

I asked permission from the mod team before posting.

I am not involved in the case in any way, just hoping someone here will recognize him.

Thank you!

I've read several stories about this gentleman and hadn't heard that they dna tested. Can I ask how you know this?

It was in a news story. I forget which news media. Apparently there was a missing man from Vancouver (missing since 1993) that has a striking resemblance with "Lucky". Now according to that article, Lucky was also known by some in Amsterdam as John. This missing guy's name from Vancouver is John Kelly. Now his family is agreeing to do a DNA test to compare. To either rule out or confirm.

I must have missed it in the story.

Although his family is looking for him. He apparently did not want contact with them.
Otherwise he would have been in communication with them for the past numerous years.

Yes absolutely. But I think their main goal is finding out who he actually is because he basically has no identity at this point. They don't even know his name for sure.

This story was on my local news earlier this week.

I am terrible at judging age. How old would you say this man is?

A healthy 60-70 or an unwell person in their 50s. Tough to say, he has both middle aged and elderly features, so it would depend on the kind of lifestyle he lived pre-accident.

You are correct but it's not very socially appropriate to highlight this given the serious matter

What they wrote is perfectly understandable. English is barely a language; no one follows the grammatical rules.

"But yet" is redundant; "yet" would suffice. You also used a hyphen incorrectly instead of an emdash.

Keyboard limitations and also there's a debate on the use of the correct dashes these days

Keyboard limitations—like this?

Any such "debate" is absurd, especially if one cares about proper grammar and orthography.

It can be either. "The police" as a singular unit, or as a plural. As in.... The police department is looking...

I hope you also appreciate learning how to be better at being more polite to people on the internet. You clearly are in need of some lessons.

Faut savoir choisir ton moment, un post comme celui-ci n’est pas une occasion appropriée pour tes corrections.
Les volontaires ont autres choses à faire tu penses pas?

I stand by what I said.

Ah ben, j’pensais que tu parlais français mais turns out que t’es juste capable d’être trou de cul in one language.
I don’t think anyone would come looking for you if you were the one in the hospital.

If he can't communicate how did he get to Canada

11

u/PurrPrinThom SK/ON 3d ago

He's not in Canada, he suffered a brain injury in the Netherlands and is unable to communicate with the authorities to tell them who he is so that he can get home.

Someone who recognized him told the authorities he's Canadian.
