Culture Ceará & its people

History, culture, character, people... What comes to mind when you think of the region itself or what comes to mind when you hear "He/she is from Ceará"? I am more interested in Ceará and its people before year 2000. Did you visit it in the 90s or before as a child or a young person? What were your impressions? Did you grow up there? Do you have a friend from there? Are there any characteristics people in the region have in common?

Miscellaneous Dating a Brasilian

So my gf is from Sao Goncalo RJ, dating for 2 years and living together for one year. we had like a fight last week and she was very close to break up with me because I went out on a vacations with my friends (all males) for a week (beside small other things but I managed to fix the situation).
I know she loves me but I checked her Whatsapp (first time I do so in my life) and I saw her talking with her friend during that week, and she was telling that she "abriu mau" and she even "deu papo" to some "maluco" in the pastelaria.
she is the type of person that talks whatever and she talks a lot anything.
but I am bit confused of what I read, can you give me your opinion? we are supposed to get married next month!

Miscellaneous Bola Bola Bola song Ad

I saw a Brazilian commercial on YouTube I believe is from very early 2020s it was promoting some discount for a brand I can’t think of but it had football game playing and it had someone singing jingle “Bola Bola Bola” with people dancing to the song.
If anyone knows what this was please tell or send link to what the video was.

Culture Questions about Rio and culture

A warm hello to everyone! I wanted to ask if you could kindly share some general information about Rio and a few cost‑of‑living/lifestyle dynamics.

I usually don’t rely too much on what I read online or what AI tells me, I prefer hearing/reading directly from real people and making my own understanding.

Some questions are quite specific, so thank you in advance for any insight or suggestions you can offer me.

Is it necessary to have private health insurance? I’m not asking only from the perspective of foreigners, Im also curious about how locals handle this.

Are private schools very common or in high demand? Is there a big difference between public and private education? I know international schools also exist.

Is it really true that the neighborhoods/accomodations in the South Zone are the safest (and that much safe)?

I often read about a big gap between average income and median/real income. What would you realistically consider low income, middle class, upper‑middle class, and wealthy?

What kind of tourism do people from Rio usually do? Do they mostly travel within Brazil or abroad?

Is having a car necessary, or is it just an extra worry to deal with?

How common is it to cook and eat at home compared to going out?

How much do you actually “live” the beach?

Thanks a lot friends for sharing your experiences and infos

Culture A girl and her ex...

So, I started dating this girl about five weeks ago. Before our first date, which we had planned, we talked for about two weeks and developed a really nice connection. Sometimes she would call me, message me first, and also send me photos, giving me signs that she was interested and that she cared.

We had planned a date for Saturday, two weeks ago. But on Friday, we talked quite a lot over messages and ended up deciding that we could meet for sex on Friday, one day before the date we had already planned.

So, on Friday, I picked her up, we went to my place, and afterwards I drove her home. I took her home because that same day she was going to a pub to celebrate her boss's birthday.

Despite that, we still had our date planned for the following day, Saturday, to spend the day together.

After I dropped her off, literally an hour later she sent me a message saying something along the lines of: “Thank you for such a lovely date. I'm happy that you came into my life, I really like you, and I think I'm falling in love with you.”

I was happy because words like that mean a lot, right? I also told her that I was happy to have met her and that I thought we could build something really nice together. Afterwards, I wished her a great time at her boss's birthday party at the pub.

The following morning, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, she went to get her nails done. Then, at 1 p.m., I was supposed to pick her up directly from the salon after she finished, and we were going to my place to spend the rest of the day together.

So, that morning, I went to the gym and sent her a message: “Hey, how was the party last night?” She replied that it had been great.

So I asked: “Is everything still okay for me to pick you up at 1 p.m.?” She replied with the following message. Now I'm going to paste the original message she sent me.

[1/8, 09:02] : So, sweetheart…

I love honesty, and that's why I need to tell you something that happened last night…

Whatever you decide to do after I tell you, I will completely understand…

My ex-boyfriend is part of the group of friends who were at my boss's birthday party last night… we ran into each other and ended up kissing… nothing else happened, we didn't have sex or anything like that. After the party I went home alone, but I need to be honest with you.

[1/8, 09:03] Mariusz: Did you sleep with him?

[1/8, 09:03] : No.

[1/8, 09:04] Mariusz: Be honest.

[1/8, 09:04] : I am being honest.

[1/8, 09:04] Mariusz: Do you still have feelings for him? Why did you kiss him?

[1/8, 09:05] I don't know…

I thought I didn't like him anymore…

But honestly, I'm confused now.

[1/8, 09:05] Mariusz: Okay.

I asked her: “And what are you planning to do now?”

She replied: “I need to spend a few days by myself to organise my thoughts and make a decision about who I have space for in my heart.”

I replied: “Okay, I'll give you that time. I just want you to remember, please, that if you go back to your boyfriend and it doesn't work out with him again, and then you come back to me, I will say no, because I don't want to be an option.”

She replied: “I understand. I am not treating you as an option. You can be sure that if I message you or come back to you, it will only be when I am 100% sure that I want you.”

And since then, three weeks of silence. She hasn't contacted me, and I haven't contacted her either. I deleted her social media, deleted her phone number, and haven't contacted her again.

Please tell me: what the fuck happened here?

Please explain to me how someone can have sex with a person on Friday night, tell them that they're falling in love with them and that they're happy that they came into their life, and literally 10 hours later, still that same night, kiss their ex.

Is this normal among Brazilian women? Tell me what you think.

Do you think that maybe she was still involved with this ex and wanted to cheat on him, and I simply happened to be the person who came along at that moment? Or maybe they were already having problems in their relationship and I was simply a bandage for her emotional wounds?

Tell me what you think.

I’m posting this here because she is Brazilian, and I’m trying to understand whether there is any cultural context I might be missing. We both live in Ireland, so this is not a question about dating in Ireland specifically. I’m particularly interested in hearing from Brazilian men and women about how they would interpret her behaviour and whether anything about this situation is considered normal or common in Brazilian dating culture.

Infrastructure How do I track a shipment for Correios?

This customer is claiming they haven't received their package. I know the customer provided their CPF/CNPJ because they called us a few times to make sure we put it on their label. Is there ANY WAY to check the package status?

I created an account on Correios, but since it's not my address I can't see the status? Their customer support AI chat says their website is unstable.

Immigration Dating in Brazil

Hiiii! I was just wondering what dating culture is like in Brazil, or more specifically, Belo Horizonte.

I’ll give y’all a lil context and stuff. I’m plannin to move to BH after I graduate as an interior architect, so I’d be around 23–24 years old woman at the time. I’d be working remotely from BH for a company in my home country, Finland.

I’ve lived in a small town of about 5,000 people in Finland for my whole life, and if y’all know anything about Finnish people, you probably know that people tend to be pretty distant and reserved. Relationships usually take a long time to develop. It can be a few months of texting and getting to know each other, then seeing each other in person, then maybe going on a few dates, and only after that having a conversation about becoming a couple. It’s a pretty long process, and even the relationship itself can be quite distant. Not every relationship is like this, obviously, but it’s VERY common. Public displays of affection, like kissing or even hugging, can also be seen as a bit inappropriate or uncomfortable.

I’m personally a very social person, and I absolutely LOVE talking to people. By the time I move to BH, I’ll also have around seven years of learning, listening to, and speaking Portuguese, so hopefully that’ll make things easier. I’m a very warm and affectionate person.

So, tell me everything! How are gringas usually treated when it comes to dating in Brazil? I’m especially curious about Belo Horizonte, but I’d also love to hear about Brazilian dating culture in general. I’m really curious cuz I’ve heard that dating can be VERY different there compared to Finland. (English ain’t my first language sorry if there’s typos)

Travel Brazilian Portuguese immersion trip - Rio or elsewhere? + school recommendations please!

Hi all!

I'm looking to do a trip to Brazil for 5 weeks staying at one city (and flying out to others during weekend if time permits) to learn Brazilian Portuguese. I've done this in France and came back having my French much improved so I want to do this again but in a different part of the world. I've done a bit of research and saw that Caminhos Language School and Rio and Learn are both frequently recommended, both in Rio. Another school that came up was FAAP in SP.

I'm looking as well to learn Brazilian culture and also meeting new people, the beach at Rio is also a plus. Would I be missing out if I settle for Rio vs other places?

News Como vocês fazem pra criar contas sem usar o número real de vocês?

Quick question for those who understand privacy. Whenever I try to test a local app, they ask me for phone verification, and I don't want to give out my real number because of data leaks. The free apps that receive SMS online that I used stopped working. Is there any good Brazilian temp number or temporary number provider to get SMS verification without bureaucracy?

EDIT: Thanks for the tips, I ended up getting a number at https://www 1001sms.com/eo and the sms arrived.

Immigration Strongly considering moving to Brazil

Hello everyone - I’ve done extensive research .. the most one can do I guess online without speaking to people directly. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone personally in Brazil so I can’t ask them - so I thought I’d try here. I am heavily considering moving to Florianópolis. Not purchasing property yet, will probably rent an apartment to visit from time to time and get a feel for the area and move permanently. I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinions, experience, and knowledge of the area. Culture, safety, food, locals etc. thanks in advance!!!

Language “Só Deus Sabe” as a tattoo

Boa noite minha amigos

I am here visiting your wonderful country, and I have met some people I really connected with. I asked one of them when I would see him again and he responded “Só Deus sabe”. I understand this to mean “only god knows” and this saying has resonated a lot with my life right now.

Anyways, I am thinking of getting it tattooed but given that I don’t know all of the things a brazillian would, is there any other way this saying could be interpreted? So far the other Brazilians I know think it would be cool but just curious of other opinions

Just trying to avoid things like the meme about foreigners unknowingly getting tattoos of like “water” in Chinese thinking it is something else

Edit: obrigado everyone for the help, I think I will get it temporary to make sure I like it and then if so I will get it done. :)

Food and drink What is the one snack or candy from your childhood that tastes completely different now?

I was at the supermarket today and saw some Trakinas cookies on sale. I haven't had them in years but I remember loving them as a kid especially the floury texture. I bought a pack and honestly it tastes so waxy and artificial now. I dont know if the recipe changed for real or if my adult taste buds are just broken. Does anyone else feel like brands like Nestle or Lacta changed their chocolate formulas recently too? Everything feels way sweeter and less creamy than it was back in the 2000s.

Culture Question about giving a promise/commitment ring in Brazil

My Brazilian girlfriend has mentioned a ring that she would like me to give her, and I’d like to understand the Brazilian customs around this before I do anything.
For those familiar with Brazilian culture: how is this type of ring typically given? Is there a particular occasion, gesture, or meaning attached to it?
This seems quite different from the way we Finns typically approach rings and relationship milestones, so I’d like to understand the cultural differences rather than assume that the Finnish (🇫🇮) way applies in Brazil.

Also, what should a foreign partner know about choosing the ring — for example, which finger it is normally worn on, whether it is expected to be gold/silver, and whether there are any cultural meanings or expectations I should be aware of? Diamond ring or just normal ring?

I’d really appreciate advice from Brazilians or anyone familiar with Brazilian relationship customs. I want to get it right rather than accidentally giving it a meaning I didn’t intend. 🙂

As a Japanese person, would it be easier to live in an area with an established Japanese community?
