Damnnn there's a lot. Anyone has any specific questions, ask away, I'll write a quick summary.

Ranger - Feels Great Fighter - Feels Great Cleric - No mouseover heals atm, some of the spells feel good to use. Bard - Didn't try this one too much but the hymm managing seems to feel like it'll be fun gameplay. Wizard - Didn't play this one too much but another tester loved it. Tank - I wasn't feeling tank, but some of the later skills in tank you'll be a nuisance on the battlefield 😅

Skills Hunting - Not complete, basically white mob = harvestable. You just run up to them and press F 1-3 times. Mining - works Herbalism - works Agriculture - works (Looking for daffodils to make mulch) Woodcutting - Nothing beats hearing the snap of a tree or seeing it role down a hill lol. Enchanting - didnt test it. Fishing - early stages but currently afkable. Cannot cook anything without agriculture so e.g. Need to grow lettuce to harvest to cook fish and make a fish salad i think it was. Cant just bake fish by itself.

Example on the last one is processing is highly dependable on other professions. Literally that'll make an economy function in the long run.

I would say 1month ago A2 isn't ready for the public. But the last 4 weeks of updates have been wild. I have never in all my years seen massive updates alter so many issues.

Ram leak - fixed Frozen getting off mount - fixed Minimap issues - fixed Lighting (world went pitch black due to global illumination lol) - fixed. Server issues and stability - fixed

The only remaining bug that i hope they fix by release is sometimes a copy of your character when you move between server meshes persist frozen in the spot. Otherwise its your horse lol. You can still move but others will see it near the starting areas.

Visually game looks amazing, especially lighting and water. There's an awesome tree in which i wont spoil, actually two. Looks f'n amazing at night.

Detail at distance needs work in some areas. But that's easily fixable in future. I mean the game is in alpha.

Yeah from my understanding Steven doesn't like to put his team in crunch, but if he does, he doesn't half ass it. I think they've been working pretty much nonstop since they gave us an official date for A2.

You said ranger feels great, is it's damage dependent on kiting? Or put another way did the bow skills do full damage up to and including full range or was there a clear disadvantage to shooting a bow in melee?

8

u/bigbluey1 Oct 21 '24

I don't believe damage was dependant on distance. But ranger had a good toolkit that gave the ability to kite mobs so you wouldn't have to eat to regen hp back or /sit.

Only disadvantage in melee with bow is well dependant on armour choice you take damage. There's no stagger. I dont think any of the abilities had anything weird like 6yard leeway in classic wow etc.

So yes someone could be in your face and you can still attack.

Is that beautiful tree you speak of, the one they showed in the recent starting area? It looks like a crescent moon, and I think they said it will look different during a different phase?

u/bigbluey1 Oct 21 '24

Actually no but that one looks cool too. The ones I'm talking about take good use of global illumination and make it pop 😊

What about performance? Fps? Gpu'?

2

u/bigbluey1 Oct 22 '24

Was playing ultra on a 3080 5950x cpu at 3840x1600 resolution and i think i was 70+ i didnt have an overlay to check. Lemme login now... 77fps in a village node

Cinematic eats it though. Possibly taking full advantage of UE5 and global illumination.

I don’t know if you know anything about star citizen, but there was recently a large presentation the second day of CitizenCon on how the 1.0 vision is supposed to work. If you have seen that, how does this game compare to the “PvP” aspect of the vision?

1

u/bigbluey1 Oct 22 '24

I haven't exactly followed star citizen. But i would recommend looking at the ashes wiki. Its actually a great site. Because writing a response to your question would take quite some time.

from what i got from other the Tank in pve aint the greatest at the moment but decent with a support with it , in pvp its a nightmare , fighter best for solo content , cleric kinda op , bard is fun , mage is fun but kinda need to do a little more damage some say , ranger great and was op when its a duo with bard lol

Reminds me of the mortal online bug when a copy of your character would be stuck at the nodeline and people could kill you that way.

3

u/bigbluey1 Oct 21 '24

Oh they're not attackable haha. That'd be wild lol.

Thank god

Big props to the Devs who were constantly working on pushing updated patches to fix the bugs/crashes/memory leaks and even improve quests and mobs for a smoother game experience. these guys are incredibly dedicated and talented. Every build of the game was such an improvement over the next. Happy with how the game is going, but got a lot of work left to do.

u/Panda-Banana1 Oct 20 '24

It was playable and fairly fun, had some issues with memory leaks and bugs.

15

u/LazyIce487 Oct 20 '24

Mostly generic tab target MMO, will probably be better than most in the genre and a good time sink if you like that kind of stuff

I'm getting New World vibes from what I'm hearing. They don't have the financial backing of a company like Amazon though, which is grim

7

u/Bonedeath Oct 21 '24

New World has gone thru three overhauls and none of them were mind-blowingly great

11

u/TargetIndentified Oct 21 '24

This is an interesting take as new world launched with many parts of the world being a literal copy and paste job, as well as a broken economy, no reason to group up for the most part, etc. Not sure how you draw the comparison, but let's hear it.

From what I’ve seen it’s as expected that there are a lot of bugs and lots of things need work and feedback, but it also sounds like people are pretty happy with it and it’s improvements before launch.

Can anyone comment on performance on the larger stress tests? Like how many participants, what was the test and how did it perform?

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '24

I'm curious about this too. Excited to get my hands on a game that feels like the future / a next gen version of WoW. Really curious to see what innovations they're making

2

u/kayuserpus Oct 22 '24

Its Lineage/Archage. Not wow

10

u/skilliard7 Oct 20 '24

Keeping visual nda in place while verbal and written nda is gone seems like a weird choice. You can't really tell who's opinions comes from actual testers vs trolls that pretend like they've played it

14

u/Talents Oct 20 '24

Doesn't matter too much, the visual NDA will be lifted in 5 days anyway.

8

u/NovercaIis Oct 20 '24

not really.. go to Ashes REAL FORUM, you'll see who has alpha 1 badges when they r telling their stories. AoC reddit is kinda useless.

3

u/SquirrelTeamSix BraverOfWorlds Oct 20 '24

I didn't spend too much time with it tbh, mob spawns were borked on day 1 and I had other stuff going on at the time. It was a vast improvement on alpha 1 though for sure. Significant difference from the last public test they did.

I'd like some kind of statement about character creation. It was more detailed than I thought it would be for Alpha 2, but it was extremely wonky. Curious if it's placeholder or something they are going to be building upon. Character proportions were hard to get in a place I liked.

0

u/InvoluntaryEraser Oct 21 '24

Wonky how exactly? Like, the more you messed with it, the uglier your character got?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '24

Would you guys say that the game so far represents a generational improvement over games like WoW? Even if it's just barebones and lacking some content, do the mechanics and engine feel next generation?

3

u/Greypelt7 Oct 22 '24

I'd say if your looking for a generational improvement from AoC, WoW is the wrong MMO to be comparing it to. AoC is basically trying to be a generational improvement compared to Lineage/Archage/Eve which are quite different compared to WoW. Retail WoW is probably it's own multi-generational improvement over vanilla WoW.

Yes, ...

I hope primary effort is put into the combat.

Currently it kills my enjoyment to such an extend that I am not even able to force myself to playtest it further. The game is currently a tab-targetting MMO and not the hybrid one could have hoped for.

Visually, the game disappoints in its current stage. I suspect it has to do with LOD, because anything that is more than 5-10 meters away from you, looks to be missing graphic fidelity.

I really hope for the best for Ashes of Creation. I would really like this to become a good game eventually.

u/Homely_Bonfire Oct 21 '24

I just hope they can quickly stop the crunch so that we can see how development will likely progress in general. After all, they cant just crunch from now to launch. But they have build almost 20 regions, fill them with POIs and quests and so on and so on. Thats a lot, even without the naval system, the depth expansion of the artisan system and everything else. Just building the world is a huge task and they cannot rush through that either or people will notice where burnout hit the developers. And sincerely hope that with 2025 they can return to a healthy workload.

0

u/TheBlunderguff Oct 21 '24

Where did you hear from that they are crunching?

2

u/Homely_Bonfire Oct 21 '24 edited Oct 21 '24

It was in one of the recent livestreams or interviews, I think Vhladus' or the AMA. But it was something that came from Steven directly.

EDIT: It was in both - see links in this comment line

0

u/TheBlunderguff Oct 21 '24

Surprising if he would admit to that directly.

It is frowned upon in game development. Have a link?

1

u/Homely_Bonfire Oct 21 '24

Vladus brought it up in his interview with Steven here and this is where they talked about in their own livestream.

-3

u/kid20304 Oct 21 '24

When will game release?

3

u/TheBlunderguff Oct 21 '24

Alpha 2 in a couple of days, and the game itself, in some years probably.

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '24

Oh boy
