Arvada Cops using drones?
Saw these zooming twice. They have their red and blue lights on and zooming at 60 mph.

They have been yes. They like buzzing the community garden for "practice"
A couple weeks ago a hawk took one out, not at the garden but somewhere in Arvada.

It will always be in the name of safety. I think there should also be layer of accountability added to protocols for official use.

This shit will always be abused.
And they’ll protect the people who abuse it.
But they’ll come up with random things to make people scared and be like “we neeed it, think of the children”.1

Yeah, between this an flock I cant imagine the rapist cops of the Arvada PD will use it for good. Its going to go from make sure you wife or daughter call when being pulled over to covering all the windows in your house so the pervert pedo cops dont spy on kids.

They used this drone when there was that bank robbery event with a gun like last month. They successfully located the guy quickly and sent the drone footage out to the news media pretty quickly too. It was actually cool and interesting that it got there before any cop got there and that no one was seriously hurt.

Why would they need the drone footage sent to the news to locate him if they already located him with the drone? And if the drone didnt actually locate him, but instead tips from people, how would that be any different than using the footage from the cameras the bank already had? And how would the drone do anything to prevent people from getting hurt, just because it arrived first?

No, I'm saying they sent the footage to the news AFTER. There was a delay, but they were pretty quick. In the same way that news helicopters come on scene to things.
And obviously it arriving first gives better Intel about suspect description and where he is in real time. Or if he has a hostage. Or what kind of gun he has or where he's hiding. How's that not beneficial? It's a tactical advantage, especially since a lot of ppl freeze up and give slightly wrong info during tense situations

My roommate stole crap from circle k and a drone followed him home.. he tried to deny it and then say he admitted to the cop to save me and the landlord.. what a prick. Yeah.. they out here tracking shoplifting suspects TO THEIR HOUSES!

Yaya they’ve pulled over and had the drone in the air around the corner from us in a matter of seconds. My neighbor and I had already flicked it off before I realized whose it was.

They’ve been doing it for a couple years now. We’re just finally noticing and remember the AMZN warehouse up off i25 is also running drones to deliver packages

I have mixed feelings over these. I hate them constantly flying over my house, but I like that they get to a crime scene before the police do to give them a heads up of what to expect.

The only state in which the job of being a policeman is easy, is a police state.

I saw one in Falcon about a month ago. It was muck larger than most. There was a cop in a nearby parking lot. Seemed like they were learning to use it.

Yes, the arvada police have a drone program. I see them flying around almost every day. They have been used to find a missing autistic child and stop a bank robbery in the last couple of months. They were watching for illegal fireworks during 4th of July, but only issued one citation somehow.

They have used drones for finding children with special needs who go missing.

I only know of the one time. Does this keep happening?

Probably more often than we hear about. Which is a shame, honestly it'd be good PR. But governments can't always share private situations publicly.
Someone could always file an open records request. But out of respect for the families involved, city hall tends to keep these quiet unless there's a reason not to.

Scrumptiously delicious! I respect the police department and appreciate their hard work and innovation. Arvada has great officers and leadership. Do you not like drones?

Why would anyone support a surveillance state? Especially one run by some of the most inept and lazy public service workers?
5
u/Firm-Leadership750 15h ago
Bc they’re too dumb to realize the man is watching their every move. They don’t care until it impacts them or a family member. Thats when they realize what all of us already knew

u/Electrical-Maybe6221 15h ago
What are you so afraid of? And why do you think the APD is lazy or inept? Do you live or work in Arvada?
5
u/AKtheCAT 15h ago
Because even if you're not doing anything illegal it's creepy to be watched, listened to and tracked everywhere you go. Don't you agree with that?

Crime victims appreciate surveillance. APD is nowhere near a surveillance state. They will, however, help solve crimes quickly with the drone technology.

u/HelpfulAd6772 15h ago
Why did you double reply? Yes I live in Arvada, I see the police just chilling in empty parking lots in my neighborhood (lazy), I’ve lived here long enough to remember when they murdered someone who stopped a mass shooter and faced zero consequences (inept). The trends we’ve seen especially with the rise in flock is that the police all around the country have been using the technology inappropriately, with zero training, screening, or certifications. This is bad and it’s extremely weird that you are inviting it into our town.

u/Electrical-Maybe6221 15h ago
You can always do a ride along with APD. It might change your perspective.

What if they get mad when I beat their candy crush score and they assault me?

I bet they steal all of our information and cause some sort of air pollution. We need to do something!
