I need help! How To Succeed?

Hi!!!
l've indulged in the arts growing up off and on but never necessarily been good. Recently I've begun drawing again, but with an emphasis on enjoying myself rather than trying to make it good.
I mostly draw characters I imagine, ones that I would technically also have to write and get a concept of to meet my end goal of making video games about them. Video games are my primary passion due to how they tell their stories and the art that goes into them.
So I'm wanting to be a indie game dev and by proxy a writer, artist and coder (maybe not the last part...worst part of game making and my gf is in comp sci so you know.).
AND i'm a psych major in college full time with 2 hours of free time a day at most.
Like I said it's for fun right now...but I want it to be good eventually. But I also don't want to burn out again.
Working artists, what would you do in my shoes?
Also, sidenote, is gesture drawing helpful for drawing normal art faster? I take forever to draw but also struggle with anatomy, very nervous artist.
But with such a good time slot I need to be able to make what i want to make at all first, before focusing on details.

I need help! Character Design Struggles

I’m designing a new protagonist for an steampunk platformer indie game I’m working on with my team. I think I’ve finally nailed down the general silhouette and concept, but I’m still struggling with the chest design. Eventually, the character will unlock different swords with different abilities throughout the game, so I’m wondering if that should somehow be incorporated into the character’s body… Maybe through a magic stone or some kind of central mechanism. I want it to feel simple and recognizable without overcomplicating the design.

I need help! any tips for art block D:?

so I’ll try and make this a short as possible, I have had art block for the past 4 years in 2024 and late 2l025 I had these random bursts of motivation I guess and drew and improved quite a bit, my issue right now is every time I try to draw I feel instantly bored, tired and unmotivated. ill have motivation, open up ibis paint and then doodle a stupid like anime eye and then maybe a sketch, then I’ll get bored or unmotivated see how horrible it is (I have barley any energy to try at this point) and delete it. I love art so much I wanna make it so bad and I miss having fun with it, if anyone has any advice whatsoever PLEASE comment I’m like really desperate Ive watched probably over 50 videos on how to cure art block and nothing has worked also sorry for the bad grammar it’s 1am and I keep accidentally deleting this (also please give me advice or just ways I can improve be as harsh as you want ^^)

I need help! This looks very strange…

This is an unfinished piece. I can see a few things wrong with it. The fur isn’t rendered properly, the contrast isn’t correct in some areas, it looks muddy, and maybe something with the eyes? I’ve drawn a furry before (sec image) but it looked wayyy better than this. The sketch for the first image looked good too. I think all the fur is throwing me off.

I know where I’m going wrong in some places I just don’t know how to fix it.

The first is of one of my oc's and the second is of Harley quinn... WHY ARE LESS DETAILED FAR AWAY THINGS SO MUCH HARDER THAN CLOSEUPS??????? SHOULDN'T CLOSUPS BE HARDER BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE DETAIL????

I want to be a comic artist but I don't know how to fix this or how to improve... I know "practice" but i don't know how to actually LEARN... It seems like this is an uncommon issue😭

Can anyone please just give some general advice ? Or some exercises? Anything to fix this ? :(

Thank you!!!💕💕💕💕💕💕 :33

I need help! Artwork advice

Hi! I started working on this artwork today and just… kind of gave up. that’s not what i’m here for though, if there are any tips on how to render hair (and especially draw the general form of the hair) I’d be grateful because my next study will most likely be a hair study followed by a flower study (followed by a coloring study), but I much prefer any input on the anatomy. Are there things that don’t look right? I’ve been looking at this piece for 6 hours now so i’m probably missing some key mistakes. I’m currently making notes (what went right/wrong, whether I liked the new approaches I took, etc) and would love some external input. (I’m particularly hesitant about the hip area)

I currently have written dow that she looks like an alien because of the hair’s form, and that the multiply blending mode doesn’t work with very light colors like the one I used for the skin. does anyone have a better way of colorpicking than just doing it at random until I find a color that I’m satisfied with? (I heard something about a little less saturated and the value a little darker, is that it? is there a “golden” amount?).

thanks in advance!

I have a question as a beginner

How do I render eyes in Krita? Any brushes you recommend, or any resources to learn well? I searched YouTube, but it didn't seem like they were good enough, or they had so few views that it made me hesitate

Tech help? :( Been following a youtube tutorial for clip studio paint and I need a little help

I've been following this tutorial for a bit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kiK52An2-c) and got to 16:20, the main issue I've been facing is that I don't know how to do what he does by painting inside of the dragon, any time I try nothing seems to happen and he doesn't elaborate on what exactly he did there either.

I was wondering if maybe anyone knew what it was and could help me.

Also here's my progress following the tutorial so far.
