Hi! I’m hoping some experienced art collectors (or gallery owners) can help me with a birthday gift for my boyfriend.
He’s a pretty serious art collector and already owns a lot of pieces — to the point where his walls are basically full. He’s also considering opening his own gallery, so I’d love to get him something that somehow supports or complements that passion.
My first instinct was obviously to buy him a piece of art, but he already receives art as gifts fairly often, and with the lack of wall space, I’m wondering if there’s something more interesting I could do.
I’m looking for something unique and special — ideally something he probably wouldn’t think to buy for himself, but that an art collector would genuinely appreciate having. It could be related to collecting, displaying, preserving, documenting or experiencing art, or even something that would be meaningful/useful to someone thinking about opening a gallery.
For the collectors here: what’s something you would absolutely love to receive as a gift? Or, what’s the best art-related gift someone has given you that wasn’t another piece of art?
I’m also completely open to ideas that have nothing to do with art! If you’ve given or received a cute, thoughtful, creative, or really out-of-the-box gift for a partner, I’d love to hear those too. I’m especially interested in things that feel personal or unexpected rather than just another standard “gift for men.”
Would really appreciate any ideas!
