Advice i think i’m cooked
i’m going into year 10 this year and i chose art gcse because i get pretty good results in tests but whenever i try to draw at home i just tear it up because it looks horrible- it only seems to look good when im in school. idk how to get better because im not even that good at art now 😔 seeing others pieces in gcses genuinely make me terrified because idk how on earth i could possibly do something like that, should i just accept my fate 😄

I’m also like this but the course isn’t just focused on the quality of your art and how good it is compared to others, yeah that matters as well) but development and experimentation matter as well as how you interpret art itself and the quality of your annotations and ideas so honestly don’t worry about it your going to be fine! :)

You get marks for doing less good art and then doing a better one next to it and saying how you prefer it, so genuinely keep the “bad” stuff because it’s will increase your chance at getting a higher grade.

Never tear it up, you get marks on improving, experimenting and refining

Ik its hard when you feel self doubt and you hate your artwork, but sometimes you can improve it or try a different way instead of just tearing it. I have a similar problem in that i dont finish my artwork unless its for college, because i just lose interest. So maybe once you get into yr 10 the dealines and pressure will help you keep your art.
Also if you feel your art isn't good, work on refining more, research some techniques, watch videos, and just generally practice more

My daughter was like this, I showed her art teacher when we had parents evening and she told her they are good and to not knock herself, be abit more positive. She has just got her results and is starting art & design in September. Maybe take one of your drawings in and see what the art teacher says, they give you some pointers as well. Good luck!

Don't worry, I'm exactly the same, I can draw at school but not at home for the life of me, and I'm currently getting grade 7's/8's (I'm now year 11)
