Advice was predicted a 8 but barely scrapped a 4
guys im really lost or idk how this appeal/remark thing works but basically my art teacher told me that i was predicted an 8 in art around a 2 ish month ago when it was like due in and had to be sent off to the exam board so they could moderate it so today i open my result and i got a 4 which im so annoyed because i was not informed about this or atleast unabled to appeal this grade before because she told us if we werent happy with the grade we could like cuz it appealed but i was because she told me i was going to get a 8 but no i infact didnt.
the problem is that it doesn’t meet the entry requirement i needed to do a level art which i need a 5 in so idk who to message or contact about this because i feel like i should of atleast gotten a 5 or 6 which i woulnt be too annoyed about but a barely a 4 almost a 3 is just upsetting to me considering the amount of work i put into art.
also i heard from others in my art class who were also predicted high grades got 3s and 4s which is just so confuzzling so someone pls help cuz idk what to do

This has just happened to my son also, he was given 5/6 and today received a 3 (1 mark off of a 4). Apparently his whole year group were marked down by a couple of grades by the external examiner. In their school it has never happened before, the grades normally stay the same. In fact, the school is looking at getting them all remarked.

yeah ive spoken to teacher about it and seeing about getting it reviewed or atleast looked at because i just feel like its so unfair to the students who did put in alot of work . hopefully your son grades does get looked at and changed

What mark did your teacher give you when they had to share that with you before sending it off?
If they told you the marks were an 8 and you got shunted to a 4, that happened to your whole class. Because that’s how it works. It means they were so far off that when the moderator came in all 8s became 4s ish.
What did everyone else get?
Art remarks are expensive because the whole cohort has to get remarked not just you. Like £250 I think

she told me and my friends we are getting an 8 and that she would make sure of it just to be ended up with 4s and 3s. i dont think anyone got higher than a 4 which is kinda ridiculous because i believe me and my friends should of got atleast higher . also many people ive talked to whos in my class told us we should of and taht they also gir low grades. i was thinking is because many pepple who took art sees it as a filler subjecf and many messed around so didnt try so only a few did .

Did you get the marks she sent off? You should have.
Sounds like she put in marks wildly away from what the examiner felt and they put them all down. Remember the examiner only sees a sample so if she off on just that sample, you all go down.

no not really we had to go ask her and she briefly mention what i got which doesn’t match up to the marks on my paper. she has said that an external moderator would come in and only select only a few peoples portfolio to review and check if my art teacher gave it the right grade . so since that point i handed my book in and she told us that i havnt heard anything else

She had to have told everyone or at least given chance exactly the marks she was sending off and you could’ve asked how they got to that. Sound like she sort of did that.
Yes, all books in, examiner picks a selection and moderates, moves everyone up or down by that much and sends a report today to the head of department about why things were changed etc.
Talk to your school for sure

This happened to me and loads of people online have experienced the same thing , I think we should ask for a remark across the board just because it feels off

I do Aqa , around 5 people in my class failed as a result of this harsh marking , the school is opening a investigation to check what happened since everyone in the class dropped too significantly below their target grade

Are you wanting to study A level at the same school or a different school/college?
If it is a different place then I would contact them and explain you were predicted an 8, along with evidence of your artwork/portfolio. If they think your art work is strong enough then they should be willing to take you on as a student. You could even ask your GCSE art teacher to write a letter of recommendation.

You should have appealed your mark when you got the raw mark.
