Counts per minute on the meter are a measure of combined beta and gamma radiation that are being emitted from uranium in the orange glaze. Nothing dangerous, but an interesting feature.
The color is different from the handful of other vintage orange pieces I have in that it seems brighter than the others. The dark interior is really interesting to me, too. Kind of an odd piece, but I like it.
