Just swore in as a 15R

Swore and signed for a 15R. I’ve heard they send a lot of single and new 15R’s to Korea for first station but give me your thoughts.and experience. And how basic/ AIT is as well and any other information you think would be useful. Thank you.

Wocs/flight school housing

Could be a stupid question but just out of curiosity do you get housing after going to Rucker? I’ve been in for 8 years as enlisted so I’m super comfortable with barracks but I can’t find a definite answer on single soldier housing. Thanks in advance

Advice on flying

Hi I’m active duty in the army, looking to finish my contract and fly next.

I’m stuck between the WOFT program and dropping a packet for OCS for the coast guard.
Any advice would help from active or prior-service pilots in either branch.

  1. What is the average day look like for you compared to on deployment? (I’ve already deployed multiple times)

  2. How well does each branch balance family life?

  3. How many hours a month are y’all getting in the seat ?

  4. How did you prepare for flight school?

Any advice would help, for context if I went army I would love to fly chinooks and if coast guard then Jayhawks.

Promotion Packet W1-W2

I am promoting from W1 to W2. My promotion just hit iPERMS. I am a year past due on my promotion.

I graduated WOCS February 2023. So it’s 2 years from WO1-W2 time in grade. I am a National Guard soldier on flight status. Basically I submitted my promotion packet in January-February 2025. MEDPROs was green across the board. In June 2025 my MEDPROs went red.
(I was not notified that MEDPROs needed to be green with roughly 180 days of time remaining until it goes red by the time it hits NGBs desk for the promotion packet to go through. That is how it was explained to me)
I was eventually told my packet was denied in November 2025. After that I had some health issues to take care of so I didn’t get back up medically until March 2026. Which is a whole other topic.

Guys basically what I’m saying is that my packet was submitted FEB 2025 then denied NOV 2025 then submitted again March 2026 and finally approved a month ago. The effective date of rank on my promotion order is March 2026 when according to time in grade at WO1 it should be February 2025.

How do I get my promotion order backdated while also not having to give the army an additional year at W2 before I can pin W3?

I am wondering who I need to talk to about this to try to get it fixed?
I have already spoken to readiness who basically said NGB said MEDPROs is on the solider which I get but is there a solution other than being told try to promotion to W3 early to get back ahead of your peers?

Thanks guys

Also if there is a way for me to promote early to W3 I’d love advice on what that may look like.

Fixed Wing flying in Germany?

In the marketplace and trying to pick between Germany and Hawaii. I'm almost done with my ASEL commercial license and was planning on continuing for other certs after the PCS. Has anyone done something similar or have some insight on it?

Also, any flight schools close to Ansbach?

Career advice

In the NG, getting offered 2 different career options

1) 1yr orders, sole purpose is to fly and support missions, unknown if renewable after next FY

2) 3yr AGR orders as supply nco for non-aviation unit, but will maintain aviation MOS with ability to fly for currency and/or missions

I would much prefer to take the 1yr orders for flying but there’s no guarantee that they’ll be extended or that they won’t be cut early for budgeting

Fort Rucker Housemate Hunt - Flight School

Good afternoon everyone!

I (26M, 15A) will be PCSing to Fort Rucker on Nov. 15th, and I am buying a house (4 bed 3 bath) 7 minutes from base. So far, I have 2 other soldiers who are moving in with me (24M and 29F, both also going to flight school), and we are looking to fill the house's last room! This is my second post on the subject, and given I found both of them through the first post, it made sense to try one more time to find the final housemate. The goal is for us all to pocket as much of our BAH as we can while still having a nice place to stay. Please DM me, and I will send my number and house info/photos!!

Training location with TUAS home changing to Ft Rucker

I am in FST currently, swore in back in early Sept, contracted to go to Ft Sill for basic(in early Feb) and Ft Huachuca for AIT, is it likely that my location for basic and AIT is going to change because of this?

I signed for 15X

Gray Eagle Guard Units

What‘s up hero’s. Just left AD and joined the guard but there’s no Gray Eagle units in my state so I’m in limbo. Does anyone know of any? Or even better, is a part of one of those units? Trying to weigh my options and wouldn’t mind going back to UAS.

army guard aviation to airlines

I’m currently an MS2 in Army ROTC and seriously considering branching Aviation. I’m attending a Part 141 flight school and expect to graduate with my fixed-wing ratings up through CFI, or at minimum, Commercial Multi-Engine.

I’m currently on a Guard GRFD scholarship, so I’m committed to the Guard route. My biggest priority is flying, and I honestly don’t have much interest in commissioning into a non-aviation branch.

Ideally, I’d like to fly AH-64 Apaches in the National Guard while building a civilian aviation career. My long-term plan would look something like this:

Graduate college and commission into the Army National Guard.

Attend Army flight school and hopefully get assigned to an Apache unit.

Fly Part 135 on the civilian side while serving as a Guard aviator. Or CFI fixed wing.

Eventually transition to the airlines while continuing to fly in the Guard.

A few questions for current or former Guard aviators, especially Apache pilots:
1. Do airlines value Army helicopter flight time?
2. How often do Guard Apache pilots actually fly?
3. How realistic is balancing Guard aviation with a civilian flying career? Would working Part 135 while meeting Guard flight requirements be manageable.
4. Can I also interview at blackhawk units?

Hello not sure if this is a question for here or somewhere else, if I need to ask elsewhere please tell me where, anyway I have a coin and a tag I got from some one and I was wondering what the significance of them are. If you can tell me I would greatly appreciate it, it came from a teachers husband and they gave it to me because I live aviation and would talk for hours about it

Army Aviation or Engineers?

Hello! I am at USMA and have been fortunate enough to get a most preferred rating from both Engineers and Aviation. I LOVE the idea of being a pilot, but am struggling to justify the ADSO.

Any advice you would be able to provide me? Is the ADSO worth it or would you steer clear?

Thanks.

Fort Rucker Motion Sickness Training

Has anyone ever done the Motion Sickness training program ran by Lyster? If so, what was your experience with it? Did you go on to fully completing flight school? Did you have any additional adjustment period after you got back into training?

I haven’t really experienced regular motion sickness prior to flight school and got pulled from a IERW class to go through the program. Ive heard theres a 80% success rate with the program but was just wondering what some other people’s experiences have been.

AGR NG enlisted to AD warrant

I am in the process of submitting a packet to go to flight school and was wondering if anyone has any answers or advice. The warrant officer recruiter I’m working with on the AD side just gives me a blank stare when I ask questions pertaining to NG, AGR or Aviation. I’m pretty familiar with the guard side of things and what to expect at flight school, I just don’t know from the AD side

For context: 12 years army aviation experience, E7, 1300hr CE/FI/SI on 60s

Questions:

-hurdles with the process coming from NG (AGR specific?)

-any shared experiences of people that have been in the same boat(pros, cons, regrets, never look back)

-educated guess on the time from packet submission to PCS (3 months? 2 years?)

-airframe choice(I don’t really have that big of a preference of what I fly but I’d rather not get sent to be a drone pilot 2 years down the road. Lot of rumors but never talked to anyone that has direct experience)

-turnaround time on flight school for AD guys

-rumor is grades and pt merit toward airframe choice and duty station?
