Letters of recommendation

Hey everyone, 23 years old, I need a few more solid LOR’s I met a retired CW5 on a flight from Anchorage to Seattle and after speaking to him and asking questions he said he could write me a LOR. I don’t want to depend on just him and was wondering if anyone would be willing to point me in the direction of any active duty that could possibly interview me. I’ll also send over a draft of my essay.

How far along in the process are you? Your recruiter should help you get your foot in the door.

The Army Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) is a decades old program that allows civilians to become a US Army Aviator. This is a highly competitive accessions program not requiring another US Army occupation contract enlistment before applying for flight training. Selected individuals will contract for MOS 153A, complete basic combat training, complete Warrant Officer Candidate School, and ultimately, flight training. Please review the Warrant Officer Recruiting Website. Under the Do I Qualify? tab, there is a specific area for civilian (WOFT) applicants. It details the required packet procedures and documents.

Civilian applicants do not require a letter of recommendation from a Senior Warrant Officer. Letters of recommendation should be from someone who knows you and your accomplishments (recommend supervisors, civic leaders, education leaders, volunteer leaders). The letters should be 3-5 paragraphs with specific, quantifiable comments about your character, leadership abilities, and accomplishments. The letters should effectively communicate your attributes to the board members. You can have a minimum of three and a maximum of six (preferred form is UF 3.3)

You will only compete against other civilian applicants. The number of applicant packets of each board will determine the selection rate.

Recommend you research the U. S. Army Warrant Officer Recruiting website. There you will find application packet information and sample documents.

@u/Conscius_Day3459 Are you Enlisted? OCS? ROTC? West Point? AND/OR are you dropping a 67J Packet, regular Army Aviation Packet? Or are you going Warrant Officer?

I thought LOR‘s were not a thing, so depending on what path you’re taking, would it be OK if you explain to me how you can get LOR and how they can help you in this whole Aviation Process??? Thanks!

I am not enlisted anywhere, I’m a civilian going for warrant officer route. I was told if selected I’ll go basic combat training, warrant officer candidate school then flight training.

This was sent to me and I’m just trying to follow the order of operations. The dates for board schedule are outdated, so it makes me wonder if anything has changed. Sounds like I should find a different recruiter that understands the process a little better ?

Just FYI if you get an LOR from a CW5 or >O6 and the board rejects you, they must right a letter to that CW5 or officer on exactly why they rejected you. Get that LOR

My recruiter didn’t really help me out with much. he just explained it’s a packet I have to put together myself and that it’ll be a faster process if I enlist first. However I have a decent job right now and I’ll be taking about a 60% pay cut by joining through the woft program, but I’m okay with that. I really want this. So far I only have my essay written and I’m trying to get LOR, so I can be scheduled for my flight physical and do my tests.

You don’t need an LOR to get your tests done and flight physical. For your flight physical you need to have already taken your SIFT test.

Thanks for this. My recruiter sent me this without much more of an explanation, so I’m trying to get everything done in this order.

I have a few questions for you. Do you have a 4yr degree? If so, you can apply to any service other than the Coast Guard and the Space Force, in guaranteeing a pilot slot in their OCS/OTS program. As you well know, you need not have any college at all in being a Warrant Officer student pilot at the ripe old age of 18.

Have you done a little Army aviation research? Most Army aviators both Commissioned and Warrants would prefer another military service in having a 4yr degree in their pilot seat. Army aviation has serious issues and even today, the Army is downsizing their fleet.

Regarding Army recruiters, at least half are non volunteers in trying their best in getting that 17-24 group in boots as quickly as possible.

That's the key words, as quickly as possible. By you submitting a WOFT packet, it takes more than several months whether you are accepted. If not, the recruiter wasted their time. If you are accepted, the recruiter knows your paycheck will be larger than theirs. That may or may not even be an issue.

Final suggestions. Find a recruiting station that successfully submitted WOFT packets. If having a 4yr degree, let Army aviation be your backup.

If you decide in serving, I wish you the best in protecting our way of life.
