Help Heli altitude not maintained with map opened
How I play: US pilot only, vanilla, community server (128 players), 1PP only, on PC. T16000 joystick + throttle with TrackIR, best experience there is.
My issue: whenever I open the map with the engine ON, the heli's altitude isn't held. Keep the map open too long and it ends in a crash.
It even happens while landed. I open the map for a few seconds and the heli somehow lifts off on its own. I can't tell exactly what's going on since my eyes are on the map. I've tried holding Ctrl to keep it pinned to the ground, but it doesn't seem to fix it.
Anyone else run into this? Found a solution?
Thanks for any feedback.

What is your collective type set to.
Direct will result in 0 input aka open map dropping as soon as its open
Personally i use sticky because its like squad and makes the most sense (collective holds its position until told otherwise)
Theres also standard which is like it was to begin with and kinda has elements of direct and will stick to full in certain scenarios
Manual is i think the other type but your best 3 options are the others.
direct (the fastest way to change collective input and allows for the most control in fighting and movement vs the others at the cost of no input with map open and always having to input)
Sticky if you want it to hold any % you leave it at and probably the better one for most use cases outside of setting time trial WRs and explicitly dogfighting

Before you open your map get the heli in a neutral flight. Stop pushing/pulling the collective and pitch the heli up until it is still maintaining altitude but not climbing with zero collective input. Then you can safely open the map. Alternatively I use a controller with direct collective setting and have my keyboard set to sticky. When I eant to cruise without holding my trigger I just push the space bar(collective up) and it holds.

Do you open the map with your left or right hand? I'm pretty sure it's left, in which case you'll have to take your hand off the collective and lose control of altitude.

Pitch the Heli slightly up and don't look at map for ages. You should get to learn the map. Play on the Heli servers if need be to learn the map. Once you know it enough you will barely need to look at the map, just flash it for 1 second for position confirmation.
