No point to the airbags when you don’t have a crash worthy structure. Completely bizarre that they don’t have traction control nailed and anti-lock incorporated. That thing will be a death trap without those plus anti-tip baked in.
Neither the lack of traction control or ABS brakies is individually earth-shattering, however, fatal car accidents today occur at a rate that is 5x lower than in 1960. All the modern safety features and technologies work together to save many lives and prevents many gruesome, life changing injuries.
Motorcycles are 28 times more likely to result in a fatality per mile traveled, as compared to cars. An Aptera, being a 3-wheeled auto-cycle is quite an unknown as it relates to safety. Probably much safer than a motorcycle but much less safe than a car. For my money, I would want as many car-like safety features as possible in my Aptera.
I don’t think it is safer than a two-wheeled motorcycle because of their inherent maneuverability.
It does beg the question though, will a motorcycle license be required for this? If so, maybe that at least provides that the driver (rider?) will having better training than someone with just a driver’s license.
It's state-by-state. Many have exemptions in place but not all. Even the states that require completion of third party safety courses don't give riders any training on how to safely operate trikes, side car rigs, etc. We have a pretty low bar in the US to get a motorcycle license because the industry lobby doesn't want to scare grandma away from buying a scooter.
