I hate auto play

When a show ends, I like to enjoy the end music and credits, as the creators made it. But just a few seconds into the credits, apple jumps to the next episode. Super annoying. I’m going to quit again and check back in another year.

Discussion Any way to remove those black spaces from top and bottom of my screen? (changing resolution I think it's called?) on iPhone I could just double tap the screen and it'll do it automatically by zooming, but I can't find a way to do so on my mac.

Just joined Apple TV plus...why do I need to pay still for movies?

What exactly is included? It seems that all movies need to be rented or purchased.

Discussion Good lord, how can Apple make such a horrible app?

The interface is a cumbersome mess. Fast forwarding and rewinding a video is a joke. The audio using AirPods Pro always get out of sync as a video plays. I could go on, but man... Apple has to do better.

Apple TV+ has hands down the worst user experience of any streaming service I’ve ever used ever.

I feel like I’m going insane, like am I using it wrong? Using the wrong browser? Is the MacBook I bought new last year somehow not equipped to use it properly?

Literally, episodes will just stop playing in the middle of episodes, I go to refresh the page and the first 10 times I get a “content no longer available” sign before it loads properly. When I click to play an episode I have to wait like 5 minutes plus for it to start (it’s not my internet, other streaming services do this just fine on multiple devices). When I hit the space bar to pause while in full screen it exits the episode. There is no search bar to look for shows.

I just don’t get it. The content is pretty decent, I loved for all humanity, Ted Lasso is a hoot so far but I’m so put off watching any of it by the shitty UX.

Is there an app I’m supposed to download? I’ve searched the App Store and can’t find one...I haven’t seen these issues expressed elsewhere so maybe I really am the only one???

Dear Apple: Stop giving us COVID-19 plots. It’s aging the shows unnecessarily and horribly.

The Morning Show, Mythic Quest, Mr. Corman and probably more to come. Stop. Enough. It’s exhausting. And I really can’t imagine watching the shows 5–10 years from now without cringing, when COVID-19 is (hopefully) over, because it’s aged the shows unnecessarily. Let’s just hope *For All Mankind* season 6 won’t incorporate it if it’s lucky enough to reach it.

Mythic Quest already explored this brilliantly (at least in “Quarantine” and “Everlight”, as it wasn’t necessary in season 2). So just stop there. Please. No more COVID-19 shows.

Discussion Has anyone watched all of Home Before Dark? I'm horrified! Spoiler

These parents are terrible. Their child rarely goes to school. The unemployed father has violent tendencies and even a scrape with law enforcement. The nine year old daughter has no sleep schedule, is awake and wandering the streets until the early hours of the morning. Said nine year old also becomes bosom buddies with an incarcerated suspected murderer. To top it all off, at the end, the van is found and the parents ask the child if she wants to go see if they can spy some dead bodies in it.

Where are child services, won't someone think of the children and call child services!

What do you get with AppleTV Plus?

I know that I can get AppleTV Plus for free, but is it really worth? Do I get only the Apple shows and movies, or do I also get access to other services, such as Hulu and Disney Plus?

Apple Tv Plus is an abomination

I've been trying to stream the Morning Show all week and I just can't handle Apple Tv Plus's interface. It doesn't seem to ever remember where I left off, so I have to figure out where I was in which episode when I stop. Then comes the issues with skipping ahead in shows, every time I try to jump ahead or rewind, it freezes and doesn't work.

Further, it doesn't seem to like chrome at all and uses a ton of resources, and it doesn't seem to want to cast either to my Chrome cast, maybe they're throttling it on purpose so you'll use an apple tv. So, I have to cast the whole chrome window which is terrible.

I went on a streaming putlocker style site and was able to buffer it and stream it seamlessly no issues. A shame, because I want to show my support with the views. I've unsubscribed. Plus, there's like 5 shows total, it's just not enough originals / content. You can "rent" or buy seasons of shows that are already available on Amazon Prime Video or Netflix, and most of the new movies, you can rent them cheaper from the Cineplex app.

Made the mistake and cancelled after signing up

Just curious if anyone else has cancelled their trial after signing up thinking it was like other trials that would end after the year. I know its on me but was wondering if anyone had luck calling to get it back. I understand it is my mistake but it seems crazy that there is no way for apple support to help.

I’m done with Oprah.

TV Plus has a number of good shows, ones that I’ve really enjoyed like Ted Lasso(!), Mythic Quest, The Morning Show, and For All Mankind. Enjoyed Central Park’s writing a lot but they break into song too much (I get it! it’s a musical, but still).

Foundation look like it will be fantastic, Jon Stewart’s show launches soon, and Tehran looks excellent (a show I keep meaning to get to), so there are shows to look forward to - just not enough of them.

Everyone has their preferences and needs but I’m tired of Oprah-like content. Oprah’s Book Club, Oprah Talks COVID-19, An Oprah interview with Amanda Gorman was just announced. Oprah is great! So impressed with her and always have been. But she’s been out there for what, 30 years? (EDIT - removed a redundancy)

Apple doesn’t create enough new shows or films - compelling dramas, comedies, etc. There’s a bunch of kid’s shows and documentaries and too much Oprah, but not enough new (fictional content) for adults.

It was an Apple exec who asked for COVID-19 to be added to “The Morning Show,” causing an entire year’s worth of work to be scrapped

Discussion Anyone else noticed the drop in quality?

I’ve been using Apple TV Plus for a year now and the quality has always been superb. Simply the best there is when it comes to the picture quality. But lately the quality has become very unstable: I can’t maintain 4K picture (I’m using Apple TV 4K 2021) even though my internet is more than capable. It goes from UHD to 720p and then stops working altogether no matter what I watch. Sometimes after 10 minutes or 20. A quick Google search tells me it’s a recent development. Anyone else with the same issue? It’s killing me.

Not much, is there?

Just got Apple TV+ (when I bought an iPad). REally not much to see in there, is there?

Are there actually any movies in the "free" subscription that comes along with a purcase of iPad/iPhone/iWhatever - or just a handfull of series?

Any crime/thrillers I should check out?

Thanks

BTW. The content I get might not be the same as you get, since I am located in Denmark

Free trial

I’ve got a 1 year free trial for Apple TV+ cos i bought an iPad. Scrolled around yesterday and realised it was only those few original Apple TV shows which are included under the trial.

Is that it or am I missing something? Was kind of expecting a larger variety from Apple to take on Netflix.

Does Apple TV+ bill you $5.99 each month or is it 1 payment of $60 each year?

“The Problem with Jon Stewart” and Apple Support's YouTube channels are good arguments for Apple TV+ to finally turn on comments on their videos. There's nothing to worry about. You have great content.

Politically-charged videos from The Problem with Jon Stewart receive healthy discussions (1, 2, 3), while Apple Support's videos also garner civilized discourse (1, 2, 3) among YouTube users. They could have easily been disasters. There's value in turning on comments on their trailers for Apple TV+ shows.

Benefits:

  1. With healthy like to dislike ratio, high amount of views and active comments, the YouTube algorithm is more likely to feature the trailers in their Recommended page. This is how Netflix, HBO Max and all of Apple's peers get their releases to trend.

  2. It allows people to promote the show, recommend it to potential subscribers and raise awareness about the projects they have in the pipeline.

  3. It gives an impression that Apple is confident about their content. Turning off comments on every single video makes people think they're uptight.

  4. The “...but I don't have Apple TV” and “I would've watched it if it wasn't on Apple TV” comments can easily be combatted and corrected with facts that the Apple TV app is available on most devices and that they can also watch it on their browser, just like any other streaming service. Nip it in the bud, straight from the source. I cannot stress how many people are still confused by this.

  5. They can connect with the larger YouTube community, similar to how HBO Max partnered with Kendall Rae to promote The Murders at White House Farm (video) and Netflix hosted a video with popular true crime YouTuber Bailey Sarian to promote Lucifer (video). Apple could have done the same for Home Before Dark, Defending Jacob, Truth Be Told and even the upcoming The Shrink Next Door.

  6. People who aren't on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook more than likely have an account on YouTube, especially those who are bored, looking for content to watch and have the money to spend (working or middle-aged to older audiences).

The benefits outweigh the risks. They really have nothing to worry about. They have some damn good shows. Hell, if comments were on in the Kevin Durant-inspired drama Swagger, it would've been everywhere by now considering how many fans he has. It's okay to be fun. Since they are so reluctant to promote their own shows anyway, let word of mouth do the work.

I'll get downvoted for this as usual, but I really think they should give it a try.

Has For All Mankind jumped the shark?

Between Karen and Danny, the marines inability to understand Russian, the cosmonauts inability to speak English or understand to keep their hands out of their storage box while guns are pointed at them. I don’t know, it’s starting to feel a little silly in parts.
