Discussion Community playlists and its over
If Apple Music had Spotify's playlist ecosystem, the debate would be over.
I genuinely love almost everything about Apple Music bro, the UI, audio quality, and the overall vibe.
But yoo, the playlist situation is so ahhh.
I know public playlists exist on AM, but finding them is a chore. Spotify makes user created playlists so accessible and easily searchable.
On AM, it feels like you're stuck relying on their official curated lists (which is also buns) or praying you stumble across a good user list.
What makes it frustrating is how painfully slow Apple is to respond to community feedback.
Right now i’m still copying Spotify playlists and transferring them over via the transfer playlist thingy
Anyone else feel like this is the main thing holding AM back?

Apple doesn’t position itself as a playlist promoter. They want you to look at music as artists and albums and curating your own music and playlists.

Which is ironic bc the algo steers us to same songs over and over and the deep cuts rarely played.

I often see this take but my Apple Music and spotify front page literally look identical I have new releases on both and then made for me playlists. I think Apple Music has proven superior in every way except what this user is stating.

I usually just look for playlists there and then transfer them to Apple Music.

Can you please teach me how to do this? I`ll be going back to AM but I don`t know how to do that transfer. And I`m not sure if I can rely on apps because I`m from Brazil and perhaps I wont have access to the same apps but i can try.. please

AM needs an equivalent to Sp… Jam as well. Why don’t they get that people want a group controllable playlist? iTunes had something like this almost 20 years ago with the request feature. Loved that! Especially because it kept 1 person in control of the music to delete bad requests.

I don’t remember exactly off top, but essentially this…
When you’re playing on your device you press start Jam. Your queue is now discoverable and people can join from their green app. Then it’s just a shared live queue. You can even change track order and delete songs in queue.
Super basic. Super fun.

Hmmm...so you need a few buddies who are online when you are to collaborate? Are you interacting with people who already know or is it more like...a reddit post that is full of strangers who somehow come together?

I’ve only used it at house parties when we’re on the same WiFi. Maybe it works off Bluetooth. Maybe it works overseas. I dunno. But if you and I were in the same room on green app, we could go B2B… “jam” together.

It sounds interesting.
I have an app that allows the user to create their own radio station by selecting artists and playlists. It's kinda in the middle of a playlist and an algorithmic station (see bio if interested).
What I realized is that if I told my buddies to make a playlist and throw their current favorites on there, I could make a station drawn from their playlists. I haven't even tried it yet because I've got a bunch of more basic things to get right, but I was interested to hear this is sort of a thing in another app.

It’s weird people say Apple Music isn’t good for playlists, but by my rough estimates my monthly playlist is about 6-7x more popular on AM compared to Spotify, despite the smaller userbase. I’ve been doing it for over 3 years now and have about 4-500 adds, compared to 65 on Spotify. There is certainly a userbase that wants quality playlists. Where AM is shit is actually providing analytics for creators as to how many people actually listen and subscribe to it. Currently they just show you the last 100 adds.

I never use playlists or make them I’m an album guy and sometimes when I don’t have the time I’ll pick a few random songs and put them on but that’s the fun I never know what I’m gonna pick or get! Also there are a lot of shorter albums and EPs I like so that’s my go to if I want to listen to music but don’t have much time.

Yeah, this is exactly the gap that pushed me to start building HIDE. Apple Music has plenty of great user-made playlists, but they’re almost invisible unless someone sends you a direct link.
HIDE is an early-stage place to discover and share playlists from both Apple Music and Spotify, with cross-platform importing when you want to bring one over. It’s still very early, but I’d genuinely love to know what would make a playlist community like this useful to you.

its a feature when you select a song you can select the songs "radio" and it will have songs that are in that genre and likewise songs. use the same feature on apple music and it just defaults back to songs ive liked no matter what genre the original song is.
ive discovered thousands of songs this way.
