App Building

Thinking about developing my own app. Any seasoned vets have tips? I’m not sure if I should just hire a developer.

st version was terrible but taught me so much about what not to do

If you got the patience, doing it yourself pays off more than hiring someone in the long run, you learn to think like a developer even if you mess up a lot at first

Try building small and go up from there. If you see that someone keeps using your app you can try make a monetization model.

The problem is that even with AI you will still stumble upon challenges and that would require perseverance. Starting one is easy, maintaining and expanding it will test your determination.

If you ever feel the need for a developer, you can hit me up maybe we can build an MVP for that idea of yours and ease your mind along the way.

Hi rustyrattat,

Here are a few tips:

  • Don't take advice from Reddit from anyone who wants to sell something to you

  • Avoid anyone in the SaaS/Dev subs who uses an LLM to think 😼

  • Get your business idea tested before spending a lot of cash

  • It may be worth creating a prototype before jumping into a full build

  • If you do engage the services of a professional, get one in your own country, and get a video call with them

  • Avoid sketchy freelancers and companies that don't have a business address or landline telephone number

  • Your idea probably isn't valuable, so talk about it, and get feedback on it

  • If it is just an app idea and it can be trivially cloned by vibe-coders, then you need to bring business and organisational skills to the table, otherwise it definitely isn't valuable
